Random Observations

Well, I haven't updated in a while, so let's see what I can tell you that isn't too boring.

Finally done with Xmas stuff, I think. Got the last mamillion kajillion cookies made, packed, and ready to ship. If I never seen another freaking sugar cookie, I'll be happy. I also shopped for four of my nieces/nephews (there are 21 of them now, so we can't all buy gifts for every one of them anymore). That turned out okay, except for my nephew Ben. He asked for t-shirts and jean shorts - I can't find jean shorts anywhere in December, and I feel bad for getting the kid nothing but t-shirts. Ah well. Fred's getting very cool stuff from me this year - a nice set of mah jong tiles, a digital photography class, a series of historical maps of Bloomington (working with this really cool reference librarian at the IU Geography library on this one), and a class on Bloomington/Monroe history (also at IU). :)

I'm at ork. I had some fun training a new employee last night. Her name is Haley, but we all call her Juicebox. She's only 18, but is very enthusiastic, sweet, huggy, and fun. She seems terrified of making mistakes. Sometimes when I'm explaining things to her, she gets this "deer caught in headlights" expression on her face. I told her she would never be expected to work on her own until she felt ready, so that seemed to calm her down.

Business is great - gift certificate sales always rock this time of year, and most clients are being nice. I'm miffed at a woman coming in today, though. She insisted that Rose come in on her day off, but refuses to pay for this massage because she didn't enjoy the last massage she had here. I wonder how this woman would feel about being forced to work on her day off without pay...grr. Of course, I'll pay Rose out of my own pocket, but I just wonder about people's consciences sometimes.

Weight loss is proceeding apace. According to the scale at the doctor's office, I've lost 22 pounds since November 3rd. I've found that even a little bit of exercise does wonders for my blood sugar (and weight loss), so I'm making a point of doing 1 mile (20 minutes) on the treadmill every day, no matter what. The dietician I'm working with told me that I don't need to lose quite as much weight as I initially thought. I was shooting for a solid 100 pounds, but she said losing 80 would put me at a decent weight for my age, height, etc. That means only 58 more pounds to go! Whee! Maybe when I'm a decent weight, I'll post a before/after picture here, as a cautionary tale. Or something.

Umm, what else? Oh, we'll head up to Fred's parents house on Christmas day, spend a couple of days there, then go on to my folks. I have to work on the 31st, and Fred wants to get back the day before, so our holidays will be short. Ah well.

Oh, and thanks Garren (halooverhorns) for covering so many shifts for me while I'm gone. I hope you and Juicebox have fun!
