… The Troop by Nick Cutter.


Most definitely not the book I would have chosen to take home the biscuits, but I’m not going to piss on Nick Cutter’s (or Craig Davidson’s) parade by having a crack at the judges for awarding him with the prize.  And to be fair, I accept that this novel has more in common with Herbert’s work and his tastes than the books I personally adored - Frances Hardinge’s Cuckoo Song and Andrew Michael Hurley’s The Loney.

So congratulations to Nick Cutter.  I look forward to reading next year’s bunch of nominees.
