Since all the new comics this week I have to read have either something to do with Amazons Attack or Countdown I think I'll just focus on other comics I've read lately and actually liked.
I love Midnighter. I haven't actually read much The Authority in the past but after starting Midnighter's solo book I know I have to. He is by far my favorite male comic book character. Yes, he's brutal but that's part of the charm. He's a killer and he doesn't pretend to be anything else. And he tends to be funny as hell too. It does help that he's gay because it's so rare in comics. I just wish they'd release his solo book in trades because that I would definitely buy.
Here's a panel from issue 4 where Midnighter explains very accurately what he does when having problems:
And here's an absolutely hilarious scene from issue 5:
Screw Batman, Midnighter is the greatest. And he actually gets to sleep with his "Superman".

I recently also read Wonder Woman The Hiketeia. I was able to buy it along with all the Greg Rucka Wonder Woman trades I was still missing. I really loved the book. It has the Diana I love in it. And JG Jones art to top that. I always (before the OYL fiasco) got the feeling from Diana that she does know who she is. But then came all this business about being judged for killing Max Lord and suddenly she's completely lost. When she killed Max I have no doubt she knew exactly what she was doing but then they had to make her have this weird identity crisis that lead to her wanting a secret identity and all other crap like appearing weak and unsure. I just don't buy it. Yes she lost her home and sisters but I still think she had enough strength to deal with it all. I guess the folks at DC thought different. All I can say that seeing her the way she's written now makes me sick. I want the real Diana back.
Here's the cover for The Hiketeia because it's simply awesome (JG Jones, I bow before you).
And the first page which shows to me what she really would want, not some stupid secret identity hunting down metahumans or whatever the hell she does now. I will forever miss Greg Rucka's Wonder Woman.

I found the covers for the upcoming first issue of the Faith arc in Buffy season 8 (written by the amazing Brian K. Vaughan). Both of these covers are so cool I have to post them but it's pretty obvious which one I like more. Nothing like having Faith write her own name over Buffy's. Ha. Can't wait for this arc, not really interested in the recent. Here's what Dark Horse's page says about the issue: "Top creator Brian K. Vaughan (Y: The Last Man; Pride of Baghdad; Lost) takes over writing duties and dives headlong into what Faith is up to - infiltration, assassination, and nonstop Cleveland. The fugitive Slayer is given the assignment that could change her life . . . if Giles's specialized training doesn't make her want to end it first."
That's it for now, more later :-)
P.S. None of the scans are mine.
