Goodbye Eagle Place

One of the many things on my List Of Cool And Weird Things To See In London (a list forever growing so long and unwieldy I've actually stopped writing stuff down) has been to go and visit Binks the Cat, which I read about in some "offbeat London" book or other (I forget which).

Clearly no shop with a stuffed cat smoking a cigar and wearing a top hat in the window should be replaced by a Sony Store or something equivalently godawful - though given the ES article is from February, it seems that they're not in any huge hurry to kick them out.

Hats for me are a bit like tattoos. I like the idea but I've yet to come up with one that wouldn't make me look a bit stupid.

Binks is inside the shop, not the window, but yeah. As for the article, I was told (albeit not by the Bates staff) that everyone's going at the end of December, so they weren't but now they are. I *am* surprised there wasn't more mention of it, though, given what an institution some of those shops are.

I know what you mean about hats. Perhaps going to somewhere like Bates is the thing to do -- you pays yer money but you get the commensurate service to ensure a hat that suits, as well.

(Soz about the tardy reply btw, but my Macbook crapped out again and I've spent the last four days dealing with muppets at the Apple Store)

How much do their hats cost, approximately? I don't mind paying a bit for a decent titfer but if they're, you know, over a hundred quid, possibly not.
