Per ri.gov: On December 13, 2024, the State was informed by its vendor, Deloitte, that there was a major security threat to RIBridges, the system that manages many of the state’s social services programs. Additionally, Deloitte confirmed that there is a high probability that a cybercriminal has obtained files with personally identifiable information.
An estimated 650,000 folks were affected, out of 1,097,000 in the State. What’s that, roughly 60%? We’ve been told to freeze our credit and blah-blah-blah as Deloitte futzes around, and now the group is merrily releasing that data. The Guv will send letters out to those who ‘might’ be at risk- soon.
What coincidence do I refer to in the subject line?
Per NBC: A U.S. Army veteran from Texas who was employed by Deloitte is the suspect in a bloody New Year's Day attack in New Orleans that killed at least 15 people and injured 30 more.
I only say coincidence because I had never heard of Deloitte before the hack, and now they appear again.
