Lovely Summer evening

Last night was wondrous. A young spike buck walked the path beyond the dog’s backyard fence, unconcerned with either me or the pup. The waxing gibbous moon could be seen rising, brightly, through the otherwise dense oak, hickory, and maple crowns. Bats darted to and fro in the clear sky above the lawn while hundreds of fireflies winked lazily among the shrubs and trees bordering the open areas. Two toads, mere shadows in the grass, hurried to avoid my footsteps. And the woods were filled with the trilling of the local gray tree frogs. Summer’s eve magic :o)

Tonight it’s thunderstorms and intermittent showers. Too early for the fireflies, but they’ll be out at dusk. A very young fawn, first to appear here, raced through earlier. *sigh* I feel immersed in the beauty of nature.

faunus, nature
