Score!

...or ‘scored’ *eye-roll*

Surprise! I didn’t see this under the oil coating in the cylinder.

The de-carb job is done and the engine put back together. Three pulls to start and I let it run a bit to gauge the effect I may have had by doing this work. Still some smoke and I changed the oil, putting in just over a pint. Still more smoke, but after seeing that the cylinder wall is actually scored, and also not wanting to do any valve work, I’ll go along with the way things are. The valves are tight at TDC and compression is still 80 psi- the engine purrs at ~3300 rpm.

I haven’t worked on the inside of an engine since high school shop class, so this has been a bit of fun :o) And now I have these tools and maintenance materials I will rarely use again: one can never have too many shop goodies.
____

- Fireflies are out today! I love watching their blinky-blink.
- Three rabbits out front last night.
- Deer out back, of course.
- Wrens moved into two of the bluebird boxes.
- Weeded the asparagus today.
