Engarde!

Just so you all know, this is telegramsam, not some stranger. I figure since we have an evil fop, we might as well have a silly non-evil one. Yes, this guy is a bit of a Marty-Stu but I assure you it's entirely intentional. He's meant to be a bit over-the-top. As much as I love playing Norrington angst-fest and Sam snark-fest, I think I'd like a less serious character to play with from time to time.

Since I'm a mod, I'd like to get everybody's opinion of him, I've gotten a few already on the message board, but if there are any major objection to this fellow, don't be shy; we can discuss it.

Well, without further delay, here he is:

Character's Name: Gabriel Moncello
Character's Gender: Male

Are you a good pirate? Or a bad pirate? He prefers the term "treasure hunter" actually. In reality, he's little more than a petty thief, and not a very good one at that, but try telling him that.

Character's Appearance: Moncello is tall, thin and dressed in now well-worn clothes that were clearly once extremely expensive, colorful and luxurious. He wears a lot of bright colors, and is especially fond of crimsons and bright blues. He will never be caught without an oversized felt hat with a broad band and large ostrich feather. Moncello's overall appearance is youthful and handsome, though exposure to the Caribbean sun over the past few years has darkened his once almost feminine complexion considerably. His favorite aspect of his appearance is his hair: it is thick, chestnut-brown, shoulder-length and has a slight wave to it and he takes immense pride in it. He carries a rapier-sword and a rapier-wit as his defense.

Character's Brief History: Born to an aristocratic French family, Gabriel Moncello was the youngest son of the family. His only brother was 18 years his senior and his mother died shortly after giving birth to him. As such, he was spoiled by his sisters and aunts and especially his eldest brother, who doted on him in a fashion rather unfit for gentleman of his station. As such, Gabriel adopted manners somewhat feminine in nature and the constant attention he recieved cultivated a rather over-inflated ego in him. He was never happy unless he was the center of attention, which wasn't difficult for him to procure even as a child due to the force of his personality, and was fond of practical jokes. He had a sheltered childhood and was rarely punished for anything he did wrong, and grew up rather naive about the world.

Unfortunatley for Gabriel, though, as he grew older he fell in with "an unsavory crowd" and his antics and jokes did not impress the local police. He was often in trouble for various misdemeanors, which his older brother usually ended up having to bail him out of. Unfortunatly, at the tender age of 19, his drinking and gambling eventually led to a rather nasty brawl in which he accidently killed the son of another influential nobleman. His father, a rather stern business-and-politics-minded man who normally had little contact with his own children, was forced to finally acknowlege the existance of his youngest son. While he did manage to keep Gabriel out of prison or the hangman's noose, he was forced to do the one thing to Gabriel that Gabriel could never stand for: punish him. Gabriel was confined to the family's estate, no longer allowed to spend his evenings carousing and drinking in Paris.

Understandably, young Gabriel ran away from home within the week. He emptied out his own personal bank account, bought passage to the New World and when the ship he was on went off course during a storm, he found himself in Port Royal. While he stayed long enough to pick up the language, the English port didn't agree with him any more than home had, so he resolved to make his own way in the world. Within a year, he had bought a small sail boat and began floating about the Caribbean and calling himself a "treasure-hunter". He did not intend on becoming a thief, but as his treasure hunting skills have yet to live up to their name, he had to resort to pinching what he could from the local inhabitants. He still insists that he is a treasure-hunter, and swears that one day he'll make his big find, become rich again and return home to show up his father as a fool for ever daring to criticize or punish him.

Character's Personality Traits: Gabriel Moncello is a complete fop, basically. A good-natured fop, but an obstinate, arrogant, stubborn attention-seeking fop. He's very charming and congenial as long as he gets his way, but tends to chafe under any sort of authority figure and hates being told what to do. He has a high sense of romance and adventure, and every little thing he does gets painted in an overly dramatic light, at least in his own mind. He is always friendly, especially with women and is an unrepentant flirt. His good looks and his bright personality ensure that he is at least sometimes successful. Despite his many delusions of granduer, he's not actually stupid. In fact, he's quite clever and his schemes and his acting skills have gotten him out of many a tight corner, especially since leaving home.

What crew you belong to, and what position you hold (if you're unsure, just put 'ere that ye're lookin', and what ye're good at.): Gabriel is currently trundling about the Caribbean in a somewhat leaky boat, going wherever the wind takes him. He manages to survive and despite some hardship, has kept good spirits. He has had a few run-ins with pirates on land, but as his boat is so small, it rarely garners much attention on the water.
