BACKGROUND: Born into poverty in Reno in 1983 and raised by abusive parents, Havoc's real name is lost amidst a sea of U.S. census data, and she's long since abandoned it with the rest of her past. For the first twelve years, life was relatively normal. Uneventful, if unpleasant. In 1995, in the midst of a heated argument with her father, Havoc discovered what she was capable of, and neighbors discovered two-thirds of her former home and several assorted body parts scattered about the resulting crater.
Havoc herself, assumed dead in the blast, would spend the next six years on the street, stealing food and cash to survive. After a botched robbery attempt that resulted in a second use of her ability after her partner was killed by the police, the CIA, interested in the possibility of a new weapon in the days when mutant rights had only begun picking up steam, gained custody of the eighteen-year-old, and offered her a deal: use her powers in the service of her country, and avoid the death penalty. Panicked and confused, she accepted.
Over the next three years, under the codename "Carmine," she was used as little more than a tool to do the CIA's dirtier work, primarily assassinations and the like. The more of it she did, the more unable to feel she grew, and the more emotionless she grew, the better she became at what she did. No official body count exists, but conservative estimates credit her with several hundred kills during her three years of service.
No one's quite sure what happened, not even her, but she was reported as missing in action after departing on a routine solo demolition run that ultimately didn't take place. All that's known for certain is that she didn't show back up on anyone's radar for nearly five years, at which time MI6 learned she was living peacefully with a family in Romania. Fortunately for the family, she was able to find out in time to leave a note telling them not to look for her. She was able to keep her head low long enough to stow away on a ship to the US, where she was taken in by the Xavier Institute, where she hoped she could teach other mutants how to best control and use their powers, so that hopefully they wouldn't make the same mistakes she had.
PERSONALITY: Havoc is something of a recovering introvert. Having cast aside the "encumbrance" of human emotion in favor of cold, logical reasoning during her service as a coping mechanism, things like compassion, remorse, happiness and sadness are all slowly coming back to her. Losing the family she came to know in Romania was a major setback in this process, but she makes baby steps on a daily basis. Some things, however, namely things like trust, might never come, since she never knew them to begin with. She's only just social enough that you can draw a conversation out of her if you approach her first, otherwise she's content to sit back and catch up on her reading.
To the students, she's slightly more personable, if still considerably reserved. From her perspective, she sees what could've been if her life had turned out differently. Part of her resents that she never had the opportunity, but it's overridden by her desire to see them succeed where she'd failed. Knowing that she could contribute to this is one of the few things that gets her through the day.
As a result of her past, from her parents' mistreatment to her own government-sanctioned slaughter of men, women, and children, she suffers from suicidal depression. One might not know without using telepathy, as she does her best to hide it from the students, but the constant bags beneath her eyes give away that something keeps her from sleeping at night.
APPEARANCE: Aside from being thin as a rail, Havoc's appearance is largely unremarkable. Her shoulder-length hair matches both her current aliases rather well, and her eyes are almost eerily green, with bags almost constantly settled beneath them.
POWERS: Creating a localized vacuum, resulting in explosive decompression.
ANYTHING ELSE?: At all costs, she will avoid using her power. She sees no use for it outside death and destruction, and she's probably not mistaken. Asking what it is will result in a change of subject.
