Ah, les vacances.... (what? a public post?)

Dec 09, 2004 20:24

First of all, I want to say thanks to yato for my very prettiful new layout.

I’m at her house in York at the moment. I arrived on Tuesday evening and am staying til Saturday - lots of fun but rather less sleep. (More detail later).

I realise I’ve not been posting much lately (and have been told off as such by tres_faux among others). I guess it’s because during uni term time, so much goes on that to post only about one tiny aspect of it would seem kinda empty, but to write about everything would take me days. There’ve been plenty of times when I’ve sat down wanting to write but just haven’t known where to begin. So hopefully now that it’s the holidays I will be somewhat more forthcoming with my entries. (Though that only applies if I’ll have internet access while I’m away with la famille from 16-27 December).

Anyway…

York is very nice - well, ok, I haven’t seen much of the town in daylight yet, but I’m enjoying myself. The evening I arrived we had yummy thai curry for dinner, had a few drinks (Rhian’s housemate Anthony has a rather impressive spirit rack *doesn’t know the proper name for it, but it’s just like in a bar* on his wall), then went out to a club called Toffs. We arrived at midnight and so were able to walk straight in, getting drinks with only minimal queuing at the bar. We sipped sweet girlie alcopops whilst admiring the many different pieces of eye-candy, Rhian spotting the (I must say rather divine) Adam in the DJ booth. On to the dance floor we went, making sure to keep within sight of the DJ booth at all times. Twas muchly fun dancing to a great mix of indie/rock/poprock songs, though occasionally having to steer each other out of the way of some drunken lout’s advances. And at 2am closing time, we walked back elated. Sleep came only around 5am after hours of talking, giggling, analysing the night.

Needless to say, we rose late yesterday (think 1pm). Twas a “vegging out” day, to use the Clueless terminology. Our only trip out was to buy milk, cheese and baked beans from the one-stop-shop. We still managed to stay up til 4am though, so got up at 12pm today.

This afternoon was for shopping - all I bought was a lip balm, but it’s Bert’s Bees, and its raspberry flavoured, so very yummy! York has a really nice semi-pedestrianised shopping area, similar to Cambridge, and it’s always good to check out shops away from my local ones.

Also spent rather a long time discussing politics with Anthony, a convinced libertarian anarchist. It’s interesting stuff, and some of it makes a lot of sense, but he is rather dogmatic about it… to the point of irritation I’d say.

And tonight we’re on an Adam-watching-mission going to the indie room at Toffs again, dressed to impress and most probably somewhat tipsy, so it should be just as much fun as Tuesday night, if not more!

As for the rest of my stay here, and all the juicy? detail about my term at Cambridge, expect an update on Sunday (if I don’t spend the entire day asleep)!
