This is the first time I have posted publicly in a while but I think I may try to make a habit of it, though some entries will of course remain 'friends only'. So...
I must, I suppose, recount the events of Saturday night, i.e. my sixth form Leavers Ball, held in a rather nice hotel. Being on the organising committee meant having to schedule my haircut for 8.30am, in order to have enough time to then drive over there and help with the decorations during the morning, before picking up
mazuhisto from her house, driving back to mine and getting ready for the evening itself. We began early, painting our nails at 3pm and despite the fact that we had until 6pm before our dates arrived, we ended up rushing madly to be ready just in time. I guess it's true that tasks expand to fill the available time. Greg (for
mazuhisto) and Jonny (for me) both looked fabulous in black tie.
Upon arrival, last minute decorating madness was followed by clandestine champagne sparkling wine drinking, first outside on the steps and then when it began to drizzle with rain, inside the ladies toilets to avoid damaging our perfectly straightened or curled hair. (No, the guys did not join the drinking in the ladies room!)
It was amazing to see almost my entire year group all dressed up and looking absolutely amazing! And slightly astonishing that out of just over 100 people, only 2 had ended up with identical dresses!
mazuhisto had a particularly original one, as she had made it herself,
adversecamber's dress looked fabulous... I must ask her where she got it, and
intermix was wearing a gorgeous black corset which must have hurt like hell! I loved my dress (and shall hopefully post pics soon). Drinks at the bar were extortionately priced, as hotel drinks would be, so I had only two, and these were bought for me (one by Jonny, the second by Pete).
The evening now seems a bit of a fantastic blur, but highlights (or rather simply things I remember particularly clearly) are...
Watching others stagger drunkenly into the toilets, declaring such things as "that's one too many tequilas for me" and "someone make me be sick so I don't feel so drunk!"
Laughing in a slightly horrified manner upon hearing that one of the becks was apparently caught shagging her boyfriend in a cupboard,
Worrying about the sanity of those guys who thought it particularly amusing to suck helium out of the balloons and talk like squeaky cartoon characters,
Giving Tom BW and Sara a round of applause as they got together on the dance floor,
Leading dances to the "Macarena" and "Saturday Night" along with all the other old junior school people,
Dancing to Steps and the Spice Girls round a pile of handbags with Nikki, Sophie and Juliette (and singing along, dare I admit!)
Trying to persuade Jonny to dance (at which I eventually succeeded) and then watching in awe as he did the moonwalk across the dance floor,
Taking many, many photos,
Waiting outside for 25 minutes for our cab, which had got lost, while five other cab drivers sat annoyed in the car park as the people who had ordered them had inexplicably vanished,
Staying up til 3am discussing the evening's events with
mazuhisto (read her own account of the ball).
T'was rather fun... certainly something I shall remember for a long, long time.
In other news:
Sunday included a stunning sushi lunch, followed by large cup of Chinese black sesame flavoured bubble tea (family trip to Oriental City - always yummy!) and finding out that I passed my first Tae Kwon Do grading, meaning that I am now 9th Kup, and have a yellow tag on my belt. Yay me!
Today was spent researching my German oral topic (the legalisation of gay marriage in Germany has not led to equal rights for homosexuals) sur internet, with a break in the afternoon during which I met Tom P for coffee. Mmmm... iced latte. We chatted and looked in a few of the shops - he bought a shirt, which is quite nice... by Tom Wolfe - but alas, La Senza had no nice underwear for me. Making plans also for a trip to see L'homme Du Train at a French cinema in town, followed by sushi, followed by clubbing, with maybe some more shopping in between, which should be rather fun.
And now I believe sleep is needed, so au revoir.
