Dreaming of pipes....

Apr 05, 2005 20:03

Boston was appropriately wintry: chilly day with low grey clouds swirling around the 20th stories of the skyscrapers. The drive up there and back went surprisingly fast for 11 hours. We had movies to watch and games to play and (ugh) homework to do. Plus, it's amazing how quickly time flies when you drive through DC, Baltimore, Philadelphia, NYC, New Haven, Hartford, and Boston within 11 hours...whereas in the midwest you might be able to get through Kansas City and Denver in that time stretch.

While I was in Boston I decided what my pipe dream is. I keep traveling to places and deciding that I want to live there...not just spend a vacation there, but actually live there. So, when I have oodles of money I am going to take five years off from whatever career I've ended up in and live for six months in ten different places. So, I'm collecting places where I should live. Suggestions are welcome as are monetary donations towards this pipe dream ;-)

1. Paris - Rue Mouffetard
Delightful winding street on the Left Bank. Still holds a market every Saturday. Lovely little shops and wonderful creperies.
2. Somewhere in small-town Scotland, possibly Glencoe
Mountains, sea, Scottish accents...what more could you want?
3. Beacon Hill, Boston
Lovely neighborhood of upscale rowhouses right on the Boston Commons.
4. The Olympic Peninsula, Washington State
Rain, mountains, sea, fog, and a restaurant that serves the best blackened salmon in the world.
5. Telluride, Colorado
A bit of a pipe dream within a pipe dream considering the local doctors can't even afford to live there, but a lovely bit of Victorian mountain splendor.
6. Estes Park, Colorado
More mountains and right outside Rocky Mountain National Park
7. Grand Lake, Colorado
A quieter town than Estes Park, also right outside RMNP, but on the "wetter but better" side
8. Jasper, Alberta, Canada
Haven't been there in awhile but more gorgeous mountains.
9. Still looking...
