Summary: Billy sings for Dom
"Stop it."
"Come on."
"No."
"Pretty please."
"NO."
"Why?"
"Because, I don't want to."
"Party pooper."
"Oh Dom, don't pout."
"Please, Billy. It's just us. I love it when you sing that song."
Billy sighed. He had recorded the lyrics for "The Steward of Gondor"
weeks ago. He had sung it around their flat for weeks before recording;
getting it just right. Dom had gotten used to hearing Billy sing it
while he was cooking, bathing, cleaning, driving. Almost anywhere. But,
once they recorded it, and Billy filmed that scene, he no longer sang
it. That is unless Dom badgered him enough.
Billy knew he had a good voice. He could tell people enjoyed listening
to him sing. Most of the crew and cast had heard him sing this
particular song quite a bit also. He could see it in the eyes of anyone
listening that they were impressed. It sometimes embarressed Billy. He
found himself NOT singing or even humming to himself that much anymore,
because he would also realize people were staring at him. Even though
they were staring in awe, he didn't always like it.
Dom loved Billy's voice. Billy sang alot. At least around Dom. Billy
used to sing and hum all the time. Billy would be lost in thought or
reading his script probably not even realizing he was singing. Anyone
around him would stop what they were doing and just watch Billy. His
voice had that affect on people. It would draw you in and wrap itself
around you like a long lost love.
One day in the makeup trailer, Billy was singing an old Scottish hymn
as Pippins dirt was being applied to his face. Billy had his eyes
closed and was lost in his singing. When he finished singing and opened
his eyes, he saw everyone there looking at him, some with mouths open,
some smiling, but all with the look of admiration in their eyes. Billy
blushed and smiled. Over and over they told him how wonderful that was,
and what a talented man he was. Billy thanked them and left the
trailer. Later Billy would tell Dom how he felt embarrassed. Dom didn't
understand this at all.
"You're an actor Billy. You should be used to people looking at you as you perform, AND liking it."
"That's just it Dom. I wasn't performing. I was singing for my own
enjoyment. Singing calms me. Gets me into a place that, well I can't
explain. Sometimes it's just for me. You know?"
"Billy, you have to realize you DO have an amazing voice. I know that
isn't what you wanted to hear, but you do. I understand what you mean
about it being for you sometimes. I do. But if that's the case you'll
have to do it alone. People can't help but stop and listen to you. It's
not like your Elijah singing. That makes people stop and stare also,
but in horror!"
Billy laughed so hard he had a tear roll down his face. Dom was always
there for him. Thank God for Dom. However, after that day in the
trailer Billy was very mindful of who was around if he sang. He could
always sing in front of Dom, Sean and Viggo. Even most of the makeup
and feet people were good enough to just let Billy sing to himself
without saying anything. He really appreciated this. Orli and Lij would
gush and embarrass Billy. He never sang in front of those two unless he
had been drinking!
"Please Billly, Just once. For me?"
Billy sighed and looked over at Dom. Dom sat there with that pleading
look on his face biting his lower lip slightly. God how he loved that
man. Of course he would sing for him. He would do anything for him.
Billy sat up straight on the couch, closed his eyes and began. Dom sat
up in his chair and leaned closer to Billy. He was so excited that
Billy agreed. It had been weeks since he heard Billy sing this song.
Home is behind
Billy's voice was low. His voice lingered slightly on the word "home" and emphasized on the d in "behind". Dom could see Billy's tongue clicked the top of his mouth as he ended that third word.
The World is ahead
Dom took a sharp breath in as Billy sang "World". His voice reaching out to Dom; bringing him in.
And there are many paths to tread
Billy always opened his mouth slightly more when he sang
"paths". Dom couldn't help but feel such pride and amazement when he
watched Billy now.
Through shadow
As Billy sang "shadow", his accent coming through so strong, and his
lips puckering slightly. Dom could hear Billy breathing in sharply as
he was beginning the next verse. Dom's toes curled.
To the edge of night
Billy still had his eyes closed. As he started to sing "edge of night"
his head rolled back slightly. Dom could see Billy's adam apple quiver
as if feeling the same intense pleasure Dom was feeling right now.
Until the stars are all alite
Again, Billy's voice went lower. His head slowly cocked to the side as
he sang. Billy's eyebrows raised and his head would go back in forth
slightly as he sang "are all alite". Still his eyes closed. Dom could
see Billy's tongue vibrate.
Mist and shadow
"Shadow". His accent again coming through penetrating Dom's senses.
Always Billy's eyes are closed. He lowers his head and moves his head
from side to side.
Cloud and shade
As Billy sang "cloud" his head rolls back. Dom feels like he is
listening and watching an angel sing.
Hope shall fail
Billy lowers his voice ever so on this verse. Billy slightly leans his
body back as he sings this verse.
All shall fade
"All shall", as Billy finished the word "shall" he opens his eyes and
looks at Dom. Dom knows from listening to this song in the past that
there are four seconds before Billy sings "fade". But it feels as if
time has frozen as Billy looks at Dom. How long will it be before Dom
can look into Billy's eyes and not melt? Finally, Billy sings, "fade".
There is a quiver to his voice the muscles above Billy's eyes tightened
as if he is holding back tears.
Billy smiles at Dom and soaks up all the love and admiration coming
from Dom's eyes. In a low tone he asks Dom, "Happy?"
"Oh Billy, yes. Thank you. I love you so much. You really are an angel,
aren't you?"
Billy smiles and breaks the moment by picking up one of the sofa throw
pillows and throws it at Dom.
Dom blocks the pillow as he yells, "Hey!"
"I rather fancy myself a little devil, Dommie."
