I thought about making the same trip myself last weekend.

AVERY, IDAHO -- A woman and two friends were reunited with friends and family Tuesday afternoon, two days after they disappeared on a day trip to Montana.
A North Idaho family feared the worst when their daughter and two of her friends went on a day trip on Sunday and never returned. For the last two days Wayne Nyborg had no idea if his daughter was alive or dead until his wife shared the good news over the phone that she and her friends were indeed alive, well and being brought down off a mountain pass..
Sunday Rusan Nyborg and her friends Nancy Wall and Miles Matthews decided to take a drive from Coeur d'Alene to Saint Regis, Montana. Unfortunately the three didn’t realize the road conditions on the passes were bad.
"We were going up the road. It was alright for awhile and then it started getting a little deeper and we thought we should probably turn around in a second," Rusan said.
Soon enough their car was stuck in the snow and what should have been a five-hour drive to Montana turned into 48 hours stuck on a mountain pass.
“We had food, we had blankets, we just rationed everything. I had the dogs, they had each other. We stayed warm and saved enough gas,” Rusan said.
The trio tried to dig their car out of the snow several times but couldn’t get it unstuck. They spent two nights in the car, hoping someone would notice they were gone. And notice they did.
When Rusan didn't show up to work on Monday her family called the Shoshone County Sheriff's Office. Soon after an army of volunteers with ATVs showed up to Avery ready to start searching.
By mid-afternoon Tuesday the trio’s car was found with a note saying they were hiking down and off the mountain.
“When we were on our way back down, Dale came and found us … we were very happy," Rusan said.
“Good people around here,” Miles Matthews said. “A lot of people came out. It was really cool."
Finding the trio and their dogs alive and well was relief for their friends and family as well as all of the volunteers who had gone out searching for them. © 2010 KXLY.com. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed without prior permission.
