Things That I Loved In An "Ooooo INTRIGUING" Way But That I Still Can't Really Brain/Meta About
1) They RESOLVED SHIT. IMPORTANT SHIT. Like the YED.
___a) DING-DONG, BITCH. THAT WAS FOR MARY. *fist raise*
___b) Resolving the Big Series Goal at the end of S2 is...yeah. Just about right. They strung us along JUST ENOUGH. Just like how they resolved the "Find Our Dad" thing at the end of S1.
______b.1) That bodes well for the future, the fact that the PTB are WITH US on this, they have PROOVED themselves to us here.
______b.2) It was intensely satisfying and paid off the Colt, John's sacrifice, Vengeance For Mary, Sam and Dean's Mission Thus Far, etc while giving them something BRAND NEW to fight for.
___c) John is out of hell. And went into the sparkly sunshiny afterlife. *single, perfect tear of love* His boys did that. His boys:
_____c.1) Made his death-sacrifice WORTH IT. INCLUDING HOWEVER SUBJECTIVELY LONG HE WAS IN HELL.
_____c.2) Carried out the resolution of his life's work in his name and the name of their mother.
2) Sam killing Jake with not only NO REMORSE but also a distinct dark glint of SATISFACTION. *FLAIL*
___a) The little splatter of blood on his cheek and how he wipes it off when he looks up at Dean, eyes cold.
___b) Jake was presented as an ultimately sympathetic character, caught up in events he had no tools to deal with. He had a family, a mother and a SISTER, HELLO. ONE PARENT AND A SIBLING, GUYS. He had a crappy job and he likely went into the army to try and make his life, and the lives of his family, better. A SOLDIER WHO SACRIFICED HIS SOUL FOR HIS FAMILY, OKAY? And our hero, our Sam, killed him with no remorse in his eyes.
___c) What is Sam capable of? Now we know. DARK!SAM. GREAT POTENTIAL. "100% Sam", indeed. ETA: It also just occurs to me what a parallel Sam "killing a person" was to Dean "killing a person"/killing the YED's "son" in Devil's Trap. To save Sam. They both had that same "NO REMORSE" attitude about it, the same cold eyes. *FLAILS FOREVER*
3) Dean gets one year.
___a) We now know two things about SPN as a show:
______a.1) That TPTB will PAY THINGS OFF FOR US through the way they handled YED and we will most likely get resolution on the Dean Gets One Year thing during NEXT season's finale. They've given us a solid time limit here.
______a.2) That demons, even real big, bad ones like YED, can be defeated. So now we have the Crossroads Demon. The Red-Eyed Demon. And really...HOW COOL IS THAT?!
___b) This would have made a fuckin' AWESOME-ASS SERIES FINALE (though I am, naturally, extremely pleased that that is not the case).
___c) Sam gets to figure out how to save Dean this time. And see #2 for what lengths we know Sam will go to to avenge his OWN death...think about what he'd do for DEAN. Blows your mind, right? Yeah, me too.
___d) Dean gave it up to the Crossroads Demon for a PITIFULLY SMALL AMOUNT OF TIME. Which = love and makes my breath catch.
___e) As long as we get a fourth season, people? They'll figure this out. I refuse to panic because basically, we've got a brand new Mission now that YED is dead, and we are EXTREMELY INVESTED IN ITS SUCCESS. And with the resolution of the YED plotline, I am placing my trust in TPTB.
4) NO DIALOGUE IN THE SCENE WITH GHOST!JOHN, SAM AND DEAN. I cannot deal with how perfect that was. Because no words could possibly do this event justice.
5) This show is SO COOL and LOVES US and *weeps* KNOWS ITS OWN CANON and REFERENCES THINGS like "We got work to do."
6) Dean and Sam have an epic love - and I mean that in a literary, not merely hyperbolic, sense. They love each other to the exclusion of other people and they will. Do. Anything. For each other. OTP, bitches. I don't care who you are or if you're into the wincest or find it abhorrent. OTP EITHER WAY.
7) The effects were AWESOME in this ep. The hellmouth essploding. Ghost!John. All that.
8) Bobby winz at life, the universe and everything.
9) Bobby's winnage only barely outdistances Ellen's BADASSERY.
10) Lots of emphasis on "what you can do" with "the power" once you "open yourself up to it" in these last two eps, huh? That power Sam has? The power he has to such an extent that he was the YED's FAVORITE? One would think COMING BACK FROM THE DEAD would "open you up" pretty frigging wide, wouldn't one?
I am deeply satisfied. As I said to poisontaster today, I am feeling positively FUCKED OUT on this finale.
