SPN fic: "Parts of Speech"

May 19, 2006 20:03

PT's Cylon-osity is clearly rubbing off on me. This one's been a very long time in the making, since before the finale.

Title: Parts of Speech
Author: mona1347 (with generous help, as always, from poisontaster. The "adverb" section, in particular, would not exist without her talking to me late one night, literally in the dark, with me under the covers and Dean!muse ( Read more... )

Gorgeous! The whole thing is fabulous... but my favorite is this section:

so Dean signed Sam’s cast over and over, a little more every day... and “Samuel Winchester wears girl’s underwear” in the spot just under Sam's elbow where no matter how he twisted, no matter how much gangly length he'd stretched into in the past months, Sammy couldn’t see it.

That little scene encapsulates all of the sadness and possessiveness and thoughtfulness and silliness and everything that was the two of them as children. The truth of it just thrills me.

Poor lonesome baby. So hurty good! Thanks for sharing.

Now I know this is a SERIOUS and ANGSTY fic, so isn't it terrible that when I was thinking of it today I starting singing "dirty but happy, digging and scratching, losing a shoe and a button or two, poor but honest, sad but true, boo hoo hoo hoo?" and "verb! that's what's happenin'!" and "interjection, for excitement, and emotion, hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah, YEAH! (darn! that's the end)"?

Schoolhouse Rock, the soundtrack of my life. ;)

Oh.

Oh, oh, oh.

And here I'm crying.

This hit me on so many levels--Dean going underground, literally, and learning that life goes on even so---then trying to make it so for himself. Every section was poignant, but it was the old lady who got me. Something about the way Dean related to her, and then helped her, and then was able to move on, in however small a way....

This is a stunning depiction of grief and the healing process. I love it and am sure to come back to it again and again. Thank you!

After dawn. Tears anyway, you bastard. That hurt. It all hurt and I didn't even realise it until suddenly the old lady looked at Dean and it suddenly hurt a LOT.

I love the way you use language and imagery and colour and quiet, but did I mention that this fucking hurt?

Oh man, I think I'm going to be apologizing a lot in these comments. Sorry? *passes tissues*

Oh. OH. This is just about the most happy-making thing you could have said. Everytime I re-read it I feel the blush come up in my cheeks. Wow, thank you so VERY MUCH! :)

Holy fucking shit.

Please God. It’s okay if you keep Theodore and my checkers and my t-ball set and my football and all that stuff but please let me keep Sammy and Daddy and bring Mommy back. You can keep all that stuff if I can have Sammy and Daddy and Mommy, okay? Thank you. Love, Dean Winchester.”

Could you make me cry anymore?

That was beautiful. Poor Dean.

*adds to memories*

If it's any consolation, it made me want to cry too. Wee!Dean is just an immediate tear-jerker, like as a concept, it's not me I swear!

Thanks SO much :)

That was really cool. I love the structure, and love seeing Dean deal with Sam's leaving. You did an excellent job!

Oh thank you! *beams* It's one of the richest periods of SPN pre-series; what did Sam's leaving actually DO to Dean.
