У иконоборцев все шло в дело - и современные им учения о душе, и учение о том, в какой момент она одушевляет эмбрион. В общем, там все было очень серьезно и изощренно. Между тем, The Iconodules chose not to enter the shadowy area of Byzantine embryology which did not belong to the area of doctrine, clearly defined by the Councils and thus did not offer solid grounds for accusing the opponents of heresy. Rather, the Iconodules preferred to attack the arguments of the Iconoclasts on the lower level of popular polemics with less sophistication but, perhaps, more power. ... The Iconodules managed to defeat the argument of the Iconoclasts not on the sophisticated theoretical level of science and theology, but on a more compelling level of everyday human experience.
Что называется, гыгы. Т.е. теоретически выходит, что на философском уровне спор так и не был разрешен по всем фронтам. По каким-то был, а по каким-то противников просто тупо забили "народными" аргументами и анафемами.
