Ben had been to some stupidly decadent restaurants (being the son of Luke Skywalker had its privileges), but this one blew even those most ridiculous on Coruscant out of the water.

"This is barvy," he muttered to Ender as their waiter led them to their table. "Look at all of the people here. And...other beings...of course

"It's fascinating, isn't it?" Ender said. He was energetic tonight, watching the various species roam around, have their dinners, everything. "To see so many different beings living and eating in harmony."

"See any you recognize?" Ben asked.

"None at all," Ender said, tilting his head. "You?"

"Kind of?" Ben said. "Like it's almost a Wookiee in the corner there, but the nose is wrong. Things like that."

"Maybe this is a universe a few steps to the left from yours," Ender offered.

"That would explain a lot," Ben agreed. "This wine list is a book. I don't even like wine this much."

"I don't know," Ender said dryly. "I've been exposed to your exploits when drunk."

Ben laughed. "Well, true enough. But not for a long time."

"You have my permission to drink as much wine as you want tonight," Ender said solemnly, "But I'm confiscating your phone after the second glass."

Ben laughed again and handed his phone over. "I'm not sure what the reception's like in here anyway," he said, then opened the wine book and picked at random.

"Uh huh," Ender said, teasing, and slipped the phone into his pocket. "Just enjoy yourself, love."

"You too," Ben said, smiling. "I'm sure the vegetable options will be taller than I am."

"This place does look like it does a hearty salad," Ender agreed.

He was going to be extra glad of that when the Dish of the Day showed up.

"Well, it's the nightly ending of the universe," Ben said. "Splash out."

"So what you're saying is I should pick a salad heavy in iron and tomatoes for color," Ender said.

Ben laughed. "If that'll make you happiest, sure."
