Tahiri had stopped down the hall to wash up after spending some time scavenging in the junkyard, but there was still a smudge of dirt on her cheek when she poked her head in.
"Tell me you noticed what the calendar says it is," she said, her eyes twinkling with amusement.
"There was a discussion of putting farm animals in Granddad's office," he said. "Fortunately, we didn't follow through. I'd like to live to see fifteen."
"You'd better," Tahiri said a little more fiercely than she'd meant to. She did a little mental math, and asked, "That's in a couple of months, isn't it?"
"Yeah, that sounds way more like something you'd want, and not at all like Master Durron," Tahiri replied. "I'm so sure. Does this mean I shouldn't even try and throw you a little party?"
"Tell me you noticed what the calendar says it is," she said, her eyes twinkling with amusement.
