Hey Mom, I need some advice. I've decided on The Louvre as the location to give Hilary the ring. I just can't decide between inside at one of the exhibits, or outside in the gardens. Any chance you can give me some artistic input? Which do you think would mean more to her?

Sorry, I had to get a glass of wine before answering this. My son is giving his girlfriend a ring.

I would say...if there's a particular exhibit that is significant to Hilary then I would do it there. But if not, the gardens are so beautiful this time of year it's really a perfect setting.

Promise ring. I know you know it's a promise ring.

No, I think The Louvre in general captivates her. No specific exhibit that I can remember her mentioning. In the gardens it is.

How are things with you?

Promise ring it's still a ring. Allow your mother to wallow in her "Aw you were such a cute little baby why did you have to grow up so fast?" moment.

...

Okay, moment over.

I'm good. It's been oddly quiet. We lost five of the newer guys to Burning Man even though I tried to explain a few dozen times - it's not until August.

It is. Hopefully she'll like it.

Happens every year. You've kept a week or so out for me later in the summer, yeah? There's some place I want to take you.

She's going to love it. I have no doubt.

That's it. From now on my screening process is going to come down to three questions:

"Do you have a bag of Cheetos on you right now?", "How many grow lights do you own?" and "Which Woody Harrelson movie is your favorite?". If the answers are "yes", "more than five", or anything other than "I don't like Woody Harrelson" I'm not letting them in.

I have time.

That's a good screening process.

How's the clean up going in New York? Stephen staged a news intervention on me for my own good.

Good. You'll love this place.

It's coming along. It's going to be a slow process but the city is getting back to itself. Good. Tell Stephen he'll have a CARE package waiting when he gets home. You've had far too much news on this trip.

I can't wait.

I'll let him know. We're about to head out, so I'll call when we get back from the museum tomorrow. Love you, Mom.
