The long over due update

FIrst off: mad props to
daisybuttercup  for this kick-ass new layout!

Well that’s it, March is gone. When the hell did that happen? How has everyone been? Been voting in your respective primaries I hope? How about I bring you up to speed on what’s going on here?

Reviews

Monsters and Critics is down to one LA person: me. So as you can imagine the pressure’s on to get out and see movies and get the reviews done. At this point let me open this up to my LA peeps: if you are interested in writing reviews for M&C let me know. There is no compensation for it, at least not at the moment. However it is fun to see films for free. If you are interested I can take you to an upcoming screening and have you write a 500 word spec review to be submitted to our Webmaster. Let me know!

Here is a collection of reviews I’ve done over the last couple months:
Caramel
Fool’s Gold
Chicago 10
Snow Angels
Never Back Down
Boarding Gate

The Oscars

I already posted the link to the video I put together of the photos I took at the red carpet for the Oscars. Let me now post the link to the collection of photos now posted at the NOG PHOTO ALBUM. My thanks to
daisybuttercupfor running the pictures through PhotoShop, cleaning them up and tagging them for me.

The red carpet experience was pretty cool. We got goodie bags with sunscreen, a disposable camera, snacks and what-not. Alicia and I were in the front row. I was behind a tree (see first photo). I named him Dimitree. For the most part I managed to avoid getting the tree in my shots. Though there are a few here and there (like that great Keri Russell shot where she’s waving) that have a tinge of green. I’d be following someone as they walked towards me and then quickly have to pass over the tree and catch the subject on the other side. It was like a sport! Over all I’m pleased with the shots I got. I love the camera (a Nikon D-80) and will probably buy a similar model for my big birthday trip next year. More on that later.

Regis and his interview spot were across from us and just off to our right (which would have been camera left) so I guess when they went to the wider camera we were in the shot. A few people said they saw me, like my cousin Beth in CT and Miss Sallie. I asked what I was doing when they saw me because a couple times I was swearing at some slow poke blocking my shot of Viggo or someone equally as shiny. Luckily reports were that I was just taking pictures.

The Paley Festival

daisybuttercuponce again came through for the team and when tickets went on sale for this year’s Paleyfest she was on it! She got tickets for Pushing Daisies, Chuck and the Buffy Reunion for herself. I’m trying to do a write-up of the PD and Chuck panels for M&C but have lacked the time and energy to do so. Let me encapsulate thusly: I love Lee Pace and Zach Levi (especially with that beard he was sporting), I have a huge girl crush on Kristin Chenoweth now, Chi Mc Bride is one of the funniest men I’ve ever encountered, and Joshua Gomez should be on ridilin. I will be writing up my impressions of the panels since you can find verbatim accounts online by now. Look for that soon….ish.

Hollywood Master Chorale
Got nothing to do Sunday evening? Head on down to Wilshire United Methodist Church at 7 for a show.

Birthday

It’s a big birthday year for me. I’ve been trying to come up with some things to do to mark the occasion. Firstly, a party is in order. My hope is to get a suite at the Chateau Marmont and have a party the day after my birthday (which is on a Thursday this year). How hot would that be, right?

The second thing I’m planning is a big trip. I’ve settled on a destination and it’s going to be New Zealand in April of ‘09. I’ve been researching tour companies, looking for a tour that goes through the north island and the south island. I think I’ve found a good one through Australian Touring Company. It’s 13-days and fairly reasonably priced. At this moment Sallie, Stephen and daisybuttercup have all expressed the desire to go. I’m hoping that number will increase some. We just need a little good luck.

MB20

Lastly I have to share with you the pictures I took of Matchbox 20 from the 2ND ROW on the FLOOR at the STAPLES CENTER! It’s a long story how I ended up there and I would not have been if not for
angieb70. Thank you Kitty! Let me just say: 2nd row doesn’t suck! These pictures were taken with my new Blackjack and came out pretty good considering it’s my cell.

That’s all I have for now. Again, if you’re interested in maybe writing reviews and live in the LA area drop me a line. Have a great weekend everyone!
