Tegoshi smiled at the morning sun that was shining through the window in the kitchen. It was the prefect weather for the perfect day he was going to have today. It was his and Yamashita’s fourth anniversary today, and they had decided to do it the best day ever. Tegoshi suddenly felt two strong arms wrapping around his waist and soft lips kissing his shoulder. He smiled. “Ohayo, Tomo.”

“Ohayo. So, how’s my Yuya feeling today?”

“I’m almost feeling perfect, but something’s missing…maybe you can help me with that missing piece?”

Yamashita laughed quietly and turned him around. “What’s the magic word?”

Tegoshi pouted. “Mou, don’t do that to me, Tomo!”

“Well, it’s your loss…”

Tegoshi just pouted and put one of his most cute puppy- faces on. “Tomo, please…”

Yamashita just laughed and placed a soft kiss on Tegoshi’s lips. They stood like that for a long while, kissing each other. When they broke the kiss they just smiled and hugged each other tightly.

“Four years with you, the best years in my entire life.” Yamashita spoke in Tegoshi’s ear, and it made Tegoshi shiver. He buried his face in Yamashita’s shoulder.

“You have always been here for me. Thanks for these years, Tomo. Please take care of me in the future too.”

Yamashita kissed his hair. “Leave it to me, I will take good care of you.”

They decided to take it easy that morning, eating a delicious breakfast, taking a shower together and then taking their time to choose clothes. They would do everything they could to make this day perfect.

They walked hand in hand in the sunlight towards the small park near their house. They had decided to go out on a picnic today, and the weather was just perfect for it. They hadn’t bought any food, but made it themselves. Yamashita had teased Tegoshi for being such a poor cook, and he knew the Tegoshi enjoyed every moment he was given attention, even if it was for the purpose of teasing. They had found the most beautiful place in the entire park, under a huge blooming cherry three. They ate in peace, Yamahita complaining about how gross Tegoshi’s food looked, and Tegoshi responding that he had cooked it with love, so Yamashita should be happy. After eating, they law down on the grass in the sunshine, Tegoshi resting his head comfortably on Yamashita’s chest.

“Tomo, your heart is beating so fast.”

“It’s because you’re here with me. You’re driving my heart crazy.”

Tegoshi laughed quietly. “I like to hear it. It tells me that you’re alive and here with me.”

Yamashita started to caress Tegoshi’s hair gently.

“Of course I’m here with you, I will always be. This heart is beating for you, Yuya.”

Tegoshi didn’t know what to say. Every time Yamashita said something like that to him he always got stunned. But he knew that Yamashita didn’t mind him being silent for once, and he didn’t care that he never knew what to reply to these words.

They stayed at the park the whole day, walking hand in hand, buying ice cream or just lying in the sunshine and enjoying this wonderful day. They had never been this happy in their entire life, and Tegoshi was certain that they would remain this happy for the rest of their lives too. No one could replace Yamashita in his heart. No one.

When it started to get late they walked towards the restaurant in their neighbourhood where they had their first date. They always went there on their anniversary, it was a place full of beautiful memories and moments, and even thought it wasn’t a luxury place, it was still the best place, they thought.

They always booked the same table and ate the same food as previous years. It was like they went back to the first time they sat there, newly in love and nervous. They always spoke about old memories when sitting there, laughing about the silly things they had done, crying when they remembered the sad things they had gone through and smiling warmly when they spoke about all the beautiful words and things they had exchanged. This night was just as wonderful, like every other they had spent here. They were waiting for the dessert when Yamashita took up a small black box from his pocket. He reached it forward to Tegoshi and he looked at him with big eyes. “Tomo, what’s this?”

Yamashita smiled. “It’s just an anniversary gift. I know that we can’t get married, but I hope that this will represent my feelings towards you anyway.”

Tegoshi’s eyes were tearing up when he opened the box and saw the ring inside. “Tomo…I don’t know what to say. I’m so happy…thank you.” Tears started to fall from Tegoshi’s eyes as he put the ring on his finger and looked Yamashita in the eyes. Yamashita held up his hand and showed the matching ring at his finger. Tegoshi smiled widely through his tears. “You really know how to make your Yuya happy, don’t you?”

Yamshita smiled back and grabbed Tegoshi’s hand on the table. “Well, my Yuya knows how to make his Tomohisa happy too.”

They stayed at the restaurant until it was really late, and Yamashita commented that they wouldn’t have any time left to some certain other things if they stayed here any longer. Tegoshi got the hint and just smiled at Yamashita, who gave him a quick wink and a smile.

Tegoshi really thought that he was the happiest man on earth when he walked at the sidewalk, Yamashita’s hand tightly gripping around his. He suddenly stopped and looked Yamashita deep in the eyes. Yamashita smiled at him. “What’s the matter?”

Tegoshi smiled back and shook his head. “Nothing. I love you, that’s all.”

Yamashita smiled. “I know.”

Tegoshi grabbed Yamashita’s neck, and placed a kiss on his lips. He closed his eyes and deepened the kiss, loving every moment of it.

He could suddenly feel how Yamashita pushed him away, and he saw the light from spotlights, and heard the sound of wheels that slip through the asphalt, then he hit the ground hard and lost his consciousness.

Tegoshi opened his eyes slowly and tried to sit up, but the pain in his head almost made him faint. He looked around him, saw the car and the person that law beside it. His heart stopped beating. He crawled forward, ignoring the pain that made it hard to move.

The tears filled his eyes up when he saw Yamashita lying there, covered in blood. He looked like he was sleeping, but Tegoshi knew that he was not. He laid Yamashita’s head in his knee and cried, the tears were dripping down on Yamashita’s face.

“Tomo…don’t leave me…You promised me that we would always be together, didn’t you?”

He grabbed Yamashita’s hand and squeezed it. He flinched when he could feel how Yamashita squeezed his hand back.

“Thank god…that you’re…alright…Yuya.” Yamashita’s voice came out unstable and thin, and more tears escaped Tegoshi’s eyes.

“Don’t speak Tomo, everything will be fine. You can’t leave me today…it’s our anniversary…we had so much more things we wanted to do…”

Yamashita reached up his hand and touched Tegoshi’s cheek gently and smiled. “Thanks for these years Yuya…it’s the happiest ones in my life…”

“No! Tomo, don’t say that! You’ll be fine, we’ll be fine! Don’t go…”

“I love you Yuya…please be happy…”

“I can’t be happy without you…please, stay here…”

“…I…love…you…Yu…ya…”

Tegoshi screamed when Yamashita closed his eyes. He buried his face in Yamashita’s chest and cried, screaming No, no, no! He couldn’t believe it. He had heard Yamashita’s heartbeats earlier this day, but now they have silenced. Tegoshi hugged Yamashita’s body tightly, trying to imprint the warmth that still lingered on it on his own skin so that he would never forget it. He buried his nose in his hair, so that he would never forget his smell. The ambulance people told him to let go, but he just screamed and tightened his grip around Yamashita. A pair of strong men grabbed his arms and made him let go by force. He struggled, tried to kick them, screamed, tried to do anything that would make them let go of him. He could hear the doctor’s words clearly when he spoke to another doctor. “He’s gone”

Tegoshi would never forget the pain, sadness and despair he felt at that moment. He didn’t struggle anymore, just fell down on his knees, crying. Why did Yamashita have to push him away? It would have been better if he had died with him. At that moment he would have preferred death before a life without Yamashita.

He looked up at the night sky Yamashita had adored just some minutes ago. To Tegoshi, the stars didn’t shine like before now, and the moon didn’t seem to be as beautiful either. The world would never regain its beauty again.

“How are you, Tomo?” Tegoshi bend down by the gravestone and put down a bouquet of flowers. It was a sunny day, and a light wind brushed Tegoshi’s cheek, just like two years ago. Tegoshi smiled and put his hand up like he wanted to show the gravestone something. On his ring finger, the ring that Yamashita had given him still remained.

“I’m still wearing it Tomo. I hope you wear yours too, wherever you are. I will never forget you.” Tegoshi looked at the grave for a long time. After a while, he rose and looked up at the clear blue sky. He felt how two warm arms wrapped around his waist.

“Are you done here, Yuya?”

Tegoshi nodded. “I’m almost done Ryo, just a little bit more.”

Ryo let go of his waist, and grabbed his hand instead. He looked him in the eyes. “Take as long as you need to.”

Tegoshi smiled at him and then looked down at the gravestone. “Tomo, this is Ryo. He’s my new boyfriend. I hope that you don’t get mad at me for finding a new love, but that wouldn’t be like you. I wanted to show you that I’m happy now, so that you don’t have to worry about me.”

He took a deep breath and continued. “I still love you, and I miss you a lot. But you told me that you wanted me to be happy, so I…” Tears started to flow down Tegoshi’s cheeks, and Ryo was fast to start caressing his back. Tegoshi sobbed, and didn’t try to stop the tears. “Ryo is taking good care of me. You would like him, I know you would. At first, I didn’t want to love someone else than you…but you never wanted me to be alone, did you? You would never do such a selfish thing as being mad at me because I’m happy with another person.”

Tegoshi squeezed Ryo’s hand and smiled. “I’m fine Tomo, even without you. So don’t worry about me. And I will never forget you, ever. I want you to be happy too. Please be happy, Tomo.”

Tegoshi nodded at Ryo and smiled. “We can go now.”

Ryo took Tegoshi into a warm embrace. “Are you sure that you’re fine?”

Tegoshi nodded in Ryo’s shoulder. “He would never want me to be alone. And if I don’t let go of him, then I can’t be with you.”

Ryo broke their hug and smiled. “I will take good care of you, so that he doesn’t have to worry.”

Tegoshi smiled. “I know you will.”
