Chapter 1 Chapter 2 Chapter 3 Chapter 4 Chapter 5 Chapter 6 *~*~*~*~*~*
Masuda had never even been able to dream about a life that was this perfect, at least it was in his point of view. Ever since Tegoshi had returned that night and left that letter for Masuda, things hadn’t been going anything than splendid. Even Masuda’s boring job seemed to be more colourful, and that was a big change.
Koyama had finally been moving out a while ago too, he and Shige had bought a really fresh and nice apartment together, and that left Masuda and Tegoshi alone in their apartment. It wasn’t like they complained to be alone, but Masuda would honestly miss Koyama’s cheerfulness and annoying babbling. They had lived there a long time together, and Masuda was glad he had Tegoshi now, otherwise he would have felt terribly lonely without Koyama. But to live with only Tegoshi was something Masuda definitely never would complain about. Every moment he could spend with the boy was like a gift from above, and now he fully believed that Tegoshi felt the same.
If Masuda had been a pessimistic person he would have thought that things were going too well to be good and that everything soon would get crushed. But Masuda wasn’t that kind of person, and instead of worrying, he wanted to enjoy the moment to the fullest.
But things had eventually come to a change at last, because Tegoshi started to act weird. He seemed restless and worried over something, but tried to cover it up with a smile whenever Masuda asked. Masuda could see through the boy’s shell though, because no smile could cover up the fact that Tegoshi was eating and sleeping less than usual, and wanted to be alone. Especially the last made Masuda worry since the boy always wanted to be close, almost too close. It had to be something serious if he didn’t even wanted that anymore, and Masuda didn’t know what to do, and all the possible reasons for the boy’s behaviour made Masuda feel sick.

Masuda felt a big relief when he got home that day, seeing a smiling Tegoshi sitting on the couch in the living room, welcoming Masuda home with a hug. He seemed to be his usual self today, cheerful and smiling. Masuda held the boy close and caressed his hair. “Are you feeling good today?”
Tegoshi looked up at him, smiling widely and nodding. Masuda pressed his lips against the boy’s temple. “That’s wonderful. And by the way, it’s great weather today. Do you want to go out with me and jog a bit?”
Tegoshi nodded, he seemed quite happy with the suggestion.
After changing clothes, Masuda and Tegoshi went out in the nice autumn-weather, enjoying the sun and the light breeze. Masuda thought it was nice to go out like this, and was happy that Tegoshi liked to exercise just as much as he did. To be honest, Tegoshi’s stamina was much better than Masuda’s, and he had a hard time keeping up with Tegoshi sometimes. Tegoshi just smiled those times and waited for him, let him rest a bit until they could continue at the same pace.
They held quite a low pace today, running side by side, playfully bumping into the other on purpose. It was this kind of things that made Masuda warm and happy inside, the childish playfulness of Tegoshi that he could never resist. Masuda was really relieved that Tegoshi seemed more cheerful and happy, he had been quite worried about the boy and had imagined hundred of things that could have happened to him. Things seemed to be better today though, his childish behaviour was back and he was as lovey-dovey as he used to be. They continued to run a bit more before taking a break to rest a bit at a park. They sat side by side on a bench, and Masuda noticed Tegoshi’s heavy breathing and his face that expressed pain. Masuda rested his hand on Tegoshi’s tight, and looked at him with worried eyes. “Are you okay?”
Tegoshi swallowed and made a grimace while doing that, his hands finding its way up to his throat. “Does your throat hurt?”
Tegoshi nodded slightly. “Do you think it’s a cold?”
Tegoshi hesitated, but shook his head after a while. Masuda grabbed his hand, understood what Tegoshi tried to tell him. He hoped that his guesses were completely wrong, that it was just a very stubborn cold, and not was Masuda thought it was. He hugged Tegoshi tightly, ran his hands up and down the boy’s back. “Let’s go to the hospital for a check up, okay?”
****
Masuda felt ready for tears just by seeing Tegoshi’s nervous behaviour when they sat in the waiting-room at the hospital. Tegoshi was fiddling with his sleeves non-stop and had that anxious expression that Masuda hated to see at his face. Masuda grabbed one of his hands and squeezed it lightly. “Calm down, Yuya.”
Tegoshi looked up at him with these big eyes, filled with tears that he tried to keep inside. He looked down after a moment, staring at his lap and avoiding Masuda’s gaze. “I’m here with you, Yuya. You’re not alone, and you will never be.”
Tegoshi glanced at him and let the tears fall from his eyes this time. Masuda wrapped his arms around the boy and whispered comforting words in his ear while stroking his back slowly. “It’s okay, Yuya. It’s okay.”
Tegoshi hid his face in Masuda’s shoulder and sobbed, arms finding their way around Masuda’s waist. Masuda broke their embrace after along while and looked Tegoshi in the eyes. “Whatever it is, I will never leave you. Do you get it? Never.”
Tegoshi nodded, looking relieved and more relaxed than before. It made Masuda’s heart lighter to see that.
“Tegoshi?”
Masuda turned his head and saw a man in a white coat, he was most probably a doctor. Tegoshi rose up and bowed slightly, Masuda did the same. The man walked forward and smiled slightly towards Tegoshi. Then he turned to Masuda and reached his hand forward. “Nice to meet you. I’m Yamashita Tomohisa, Tegoshi’s doctor.”
Masuda shook his hand. “I’m Masuda Takahisa.”
Yamashita smiled and the turned to Tegoshi. “Let’s go and examine you then.”
Tegoshi bit his lip and tugged at Masuda’s arm. Masuda grabbed his hand. “Sensei? Can I come with him?”
Yamashita smiled and nodded. “Of course you can.”
Masuda felt like he would cry the entire examination, but he stayed at Tegoshi’s side the entire time, held his hand in a tight grip to show him that he was there. Yamashita examined him very thoroughly, and Masuda noticed Tegoshi’s anxious expression when Yamashita wrinkled his eyebrows at the results. “We have to take x-ray on you, okay?”
Tegoshi nodded, and bit his lip. Masuda swallowed hard and squeezed Tegoshi’s hand. So this was a bad omen.
Obviously, Masuda couldn’t follow Tegoshi when they were taking the x-ray, and he hated to just stand outside and watch. Tegoshi looked so small when he law in the big machine, small and vulnerable. Masuda didn’t want him to be in there alone, even though it was for just a short while. He didn’t want Tegoshi to have to go through this, he didn’t deserve it.
Masuda grabbed Tegoshi’s hand again as soon as he was finished with the x-ray. Yamashita looked in their direction. “The results will come soon, can you wait here a while?”
Tegoshi nodded and bit his lip. Yamashita patted his shoulder lightly before leaving the room. Masuda and Tegoshi went back to the waiting room, and Masuda wrapped his arms around the boy as fast as they sat down. Tegoshi wasn’t late to wrap his arms around Masuda as well, and they just sat there in silence for a long time. Masuda wanted to say something, but he didn’t know what. “I love you, Yuya.”
Tegoshi looked up at him and tilted his head to the side. Masuda smiled and touched his cheek lightly. “I just wanted to tell you. Nothing will change the fact that I’m totally crazy about you, every single part of you. And it won’t ever change.”
Tegoshi’s eyes glanced with tears and Masuda could soon feel soft lips being pressed against his own. He leaned his forehead towards Tegoshi’s and closed his eyes. “No matter what happens, I’ll be here beside you.”
Tegoshi nodded and linked their fingers together, squeezing Masuda’s hand firmly.
Both of them heard steps from the entrance and changed their attention to Yamashita who now stood a bit away from them. His face was stern, and it made Masuda’s stomach twitch. Tegoshi looked at the doctor with a nervous expression, barely breathing.
“Tegoshi, your test-results and the x-ray all points in the same direction. The tumour in your throat has come back.” Yamashita looked down, obviously feeling bad for Tegoshi. ”I’m very sorry.”
Masuda felt like his heart stopped. He turned to Tegoshi, who just stared blankly in front of him, probably in shock. “Yuya…”
Masuda embraced the boy tightly and patted his back. He felt tears from Tegoshi’s eyes drip down on his shoulder and tightened his grip. “It’ll be okay, Yuya. I know it will. You’re not alone, I will stay with you the entire time.”
