So it's pouring rain outside, which makes the brandy in front of me all the nicer. Walking for 40 minutes in the pouring rain may be good for your health, but not good for your dryness.
The wheels are in motion for Getting Things Squared Away While I'm Not In My Apartment Here In London. A list of potential apartments has been made and, when I'm in Ottawa (to save on long distance), I plan on calling each and every one of them and asking the following questions:
- Do you have any south-facing apartments?
- Do you have central air or air-conditioning?
- How much counter space is in the kitchen?
- Does the stove have a vent and/or hood?
- Please tell me you have a gas stove (I expect the answer to be "no" every time, but one can dream.)
I've also contacted one of the other lab technicians who runs a little painting business on the side, and it shouldn't be a problem to slap a coat of primer onto each and every wall I've prettied up.
Getting a painting consult set up made me realize that my lovely Ikea Billy bookshelf is totally dangerous, what with it not being anchored to the wall and with the back being detached and all, so I wouldn't want to risk it falling on somebody while they worked. Hell, it almost fell on me once, and I was just taking a cookbook off of it! So over the next week I plan on accumulating as many boxes as possible, and throwing books into them.
And then I thought to myself, "why not kill two birds with one stone, John?" This would be a great opportunity to get all of my books added to
Delicious Library without it seeming like I'm wasting my time by doing it. All I have to do is keep all of the cardboard boxes in the computer room so that I have to do a bit of walking anyway.
Oh, and somebody remind me to take my CFL bulbs out and replace them with the shite incandescent ones that came with the place. No way anybody's going to save money on my watch!
