The Replacements

Jul 16, 2005 22:00

Though this would work just as well as a private post, I do enjoy sharing. Here's a more-or-less complete list of all of the things I'm going to have to replace come October:
  • Some folding chairs (for guests &c)
  • Bookshelf stereo system (this one can be almost fully comped by my Sony points, but it's kind of clunky. This one looks so damn sexy, but I don't care about MP3 playback (and it has no disc changer because of the MP3 playback.)
  • Region-free DVD player (that, or I just burn all of the non-Region 1 stuff I have with the help of DVD Shrink)
  • Knife rail
  • A phone (I'll probably get a satellite for the cordless I already have)
  • A floor lamp or two
  • Vacuum
  • Electric kettle
  • Kitchen cart
  • Kitchen scale
  • A cutting board or two
  • Many high-efficiency incandescent light bulbs (assuming that Andrew wants to go through all the trouble of taking them out and bringing them with him.)
  • Fan
  • Whiteboard?
  • New! I'm sorely tempted to mount my microwave above my stove using these mounting brackets from Lee Valley. I've got an entire counter unusable because of the microwave and, let's face it, I'm never going to get a range hood in this place
  • New! While on the subject of Lee Valley stuff, I really need to get something like this drawer-mounted spice tray, because right now all of my spices are in their original bags in a cupboard. Awkward!
Thing is, I'll have in excess of $2700 with which to buy all this stuff, meaning that I can fill in other house gaps. Maybe buy a couple new pots and pans, pick up some "artwork" for the living room, snag a couch for the spare room if one from Ottawa won't fit in the car, and so on.

housing, i'm a consumer whore!
