AIM upgrade

Sep 18, 2009 23:43

So, I actually upgraded my AIM for the first time in probably over 5 or 6 years.

kihanna made me aware of AIM 7 Beta, and I asked her about it, and it sounded pretty nice! So I thought, hey why not, I'll give it a try.
Also note that last week, my MSN messenger wasn't working so I downloaded the newest version of Windows Live Messenger.

Verdict: AIM 7 is ten thousand times better than MSN will EVER BE.

I'm serious. This is really nice. I updated it from AIM 5.9 or something. (here's a screenshot of the new one)

Pros:
-Unlike some of the newer versions of AIM, I can turn off graphic emotes
-You can turn off most any of the annoying features, so things like the default lines between messages ("aim bubbles" they call it) and I'm glad I can turn off the tabbed windows.
-Changing window colors is neat I guess.
-It's only a LITTLE round-edged and shiny, not OMGSHINYAQUABUBBLEMACBOOK style shiny like MSN tends to be.
-It only took like 10 seconds to install, and DIDN'T force me to install any other weird programs. (The new MSN took 10 minutes to install, and forced me to install some weird picture sharing program I didn't need.)
-100x100 icons!
-The IM pop ups on the lower right (for when people sign in/out) are a bit smaller than they were in my old AIM.
-10000 times better than MSN /WIndows Live

Cons:
-Still wish I could have my old grey, pointy-edged boxes, but I'm just ~*~*retro*~*~ like that.
-The IM windows are kinda big even at the smallest I can make them.

So yeah, I just might keep this one, unless I end up missing the old look of 5.9 again XD Dont ask why this entry is extensive, I'm just VERY PICKY about my IM clients and I havn't changed AIM in years and..yeah. NEVER GETTING WINDOWS LIVE AGAIN. I'll go to meebo.com if I need to use MSN. MSN just sucks, and it's bulky, and full of all this totally USELESS CRAP that wants to connect to hotmail and all this other stuff no one probably uses. Hey MSN, I just want to chat with people.  And so far AIM 7 is doing a good job at that, the interface is nice and still the same good ol AIM that I'm used to. Sure, I DID like the drawing tool in MSN, and the custom smileys were a neat featur as well, but I can live without the draw tool, and the custom smileys were generally more ABUSED than used for good :|; I never really used MSN much, but I'll use this entry to complain more about it HEY GUYS HOW ABOUT YOU NOT HAVE YOUR SCREEN NAME BE 5 MILLION WORDS LONG. ALSO WHY ARE THE WINDOWS SO HUGE AND FILLED WITH SO MANY USELESS BUTTONS AND- ok I'm done.

It's just too bad that AIM is "AOL Instant Messenger" aka, AMERICA Online Instant Messenger, meaning a lot of my foreign friends don't have it :( Siiighh

Other than that... I pretty much played La-Mulana all day. I have like 5 "days" worth of updates to do, oh boy.

la-mulana, aim what, momo's a freak
