Hello all!
I just want you all to know that I am doing okay. I have my moments--and I miss my daddy--but, I am doing okay. Mom is okay too. We are two tough gals--I tell you.
We were very prepared for events that occured after. My mom and dad made sure that everything was in place. So, making funeral arrangements was really not terrible. We just had to decide times, etc. During this time we also took care of the obituaries. Daddy was born/raised in New Orleans, and therefore, we felt the obit should run in the Baton Rouge Advocate and the Times Picayune (in New Orleans). We were warned that the cost difference would be remarkable...but, we really did not worry over it. How could we when we had so many other things on our minds?
This week I have recieved both bills. The Baton Rouge Obit cost 78.00. The Times Picayune--which was much shorter--was 278.00!!!!! OMG!!! Not only was it shorter--the font was MUCH smaller!!! The BR paper sent out a laminated bookmark copy of the obit--and the Times did not do diddly!
We are all splitting it and so it really should not matter. But, there are some families that will not be prepared to face the cost of this type of thing during hard times. I told several people at the Times Pic that the qualilty of what they want us to pay more for was far below that of our local paper.
Of course they could do nothing about it and I felt bad calling to complain. But, I did it anyway. (I also sent the payment out today...SO THERE!)
I just want others to know about the cost of these things!
After it is all said and done I kind of have to smile b/c daddy told momma that he did not want a long, fancy obit. I guess he knew something we did not.
