Epic Spring Quarter 2008 Recap Post

Jul 07, 2008 00:10

sooo late, but it will be sooo worth it to read/look at pictures, because it was an epic quarter, one that definitely exceeded expectations for my last three months as an undergraduate.

Sarah and I decided to be adventurous like we were in China and just hit the road.  We stopped in Santa Barbara and Solvang on our way up to Berkeley where we stayed with her friend and her crazy loveable pets.  We hung out in San Francisco, walked around China town (and commented on all the foreigners as if we weren't one of them) , I showed off my canto skills and ordered dim sum, shopped at the biggest nicest H&M there ever was, randomly met up with Ian, then met with Susan and Steve (lovingly referred to as Stuvan), our good friends from EAP.  We ate amazing tapas and drank lots of sangria in the trendy Mission district...i miss it so much haha.

we hung out at berkeley the next day, met up with francesca, watched a tibet protest, ate amazng ethiopian food, then the next day went to Monterey Bay where we camped like real mountain women (but slept in the car because it rained through the tent!)  and played at the aquarium like little kids.  The drive down the coast was really therapeutic...we both really needed to get out of LA and into nature and just chill.  It was awesome stopping off at random places, especially the crazy rocky places where we hunted for jade.  I <3 California.  I'm so proud to call it my homeland.

So after the trip I was refreshed and ready to take on spring, the greatest quarter known to college kind.  It started off with a bang by partying with francesca et al at Rage in West Hollywood, margarita mondays at acapulco with dalynna, chillin at palominos, international get togethers and hapa club fun.  Francesca and I went to SB for the first weekend back and actually didn't party...much haha.  (refer to an earlier post about floatopia lol).

hapa club finally got t-shirts and an amazing signboard but we had to take it down because of the liability from it saying "ucla hapa club" instead of hapa club at ucla.  ughhhhhh.  the other pic is of our lovely sunset picnic at janss steps.  OOOhhh and we're so established now that we took on interns!!  haha they were sooooooo adorable at their first board meeting, they dressed up all funny and put mine and francescas faces on their binders and acted all nerdy and allergic to everything like nerds.  I love liz and sachi soooo much!!!  Hapa Club is def. in good hands hahha

Type your cut contents here.

so I covered the film "mister lonely" and interviewed the director Harmony Korine at the Avalon Hotel in Beverly Hills.  Dorothy and I snacked on the yummy food while I made friends with the publicist, and the interview was freakin HILARIOUS.  The guy was seriously coked out and it was the most fun I've ever had interviewing someone.  I'm really bummed the tape got lost, because it would have been the craziest/weirdest segment ever (its about a michael jackson impersonator who meets a marilyn monroe impersonator and they live on a commune in scotland with other impersonators).  anyways, afterwards dorothy and I went to Sunset for a light meal at Le Petit Four, a delightful little sidewalk cafe that I've always wanted to check out.  The ceviche was expensive but delicious.  We went home, baked, and watched Gossip Girl.  It was an amazing day.

I did another press day for this awful movie, "the children of huang shi."  Jonathan Rhys Meyers was supposed to be there but cancelled at the last minute and the director's interview was crap but at least I got gourmet food from the Four Season's in Bev. hills aka my 3rd home haha.

So I was SUPPOSED to cover the Asian Excellence Awards for DBTV.  I had been looking forward to this ever since last year's show!  We lost our spot on the carpet and a LOT of drama ensued.  Like crazy ass shit, people crying, lots of hatred, lots of smack talk, loooootttttaaa hard feelings.  In the end it kinda worked out for the better...( at least this is what I have to tell myself so I won't scream at someone).  We got in for free as seat fillers and sat behind the celebs.  I sat behind Tila Tequila.  We had a pretty good view.  Bobby Lee hosted and a lot of hapas were honored, and some of their speeches made me cry because they were so moving/I related to them so much.

Afterwards we were walking around searching for a way into the after party and randomly ran into Kristi Yamaguchi.  She was really nice and I just raved about how much I love her haha.  (I used to be OBSESSED with ice skating!)
We crawled under some bushes, walked all around Royce Hall, then met a bunch of random people who were also trying to sneak into the after party until we finally met one with a friend already inside who gave us more directions.  So, in our sexy secret agent way, we finally found the "secret" entrance and walked right in to get the free full open bar (where I told the bartender, gimme anything with Courvoisier--so he didn't card me but he carded my friends haha) unlimited red mango (with all the toppings!), and lots and lots of free gourmet food.  Quentin Tarantino was there but was kind of a douche...then we met some random no name "celebs."  It was cool being there and it was def. worth the wait.  The whole moral of the night was NEVER GIVE UP haha you will always find a way!

so this was a CRAZY night.  we all wanted to go out in hollywood but no one wanted to drive, so we...*shudders* take. the LA. Metro. IT's scary enough during the daytime, but the people on it late at night are even CRAZIER.  A crazy lady STOLE one of the fucking bus passes that the sympathetic bus driver gave to us all because we're so innocent and naiive haha.

So we're at that bus stop there for about an hour.  We meet some cute british boys, and we all finally hop a bus to santa monica.  My friend jenny's bday party is happening at Element, but they're thinking of leaving to go to someone's house party instead.  D and Emmanulle want to go to Le Bitsch, and part of me and Fran want to go to DV8 with the british boys.  Ugh.  so many decisions!!  so we get off the bus, run some to catch another bus, finally make it to le Bitsch, grab some alcohol and down it in a sketch parking lot where a homeless guy who supposedly has a daughter in austria begs us for money.  Jenny keeps calling me to go to her house party, so me and Francesca decide to hitch a ride with her and the others stay at the club.

The house party was AMAZING.  I cannot begin to describe how breathtaking the view from jenny's friend's house on the top of mullholland drive is...you get a 360 degree view of all of LA and the valley, all the lights are glittering...the city breathes...ah!!!  Soooo cool.  I'll always remember that night as one of the randomest/greatest nights in LA.

Dalynna's 22nd bday was a blast!  The day before I helped Salima cover the Forgetting Sarah Marshall premiere at the chinese theater on hollywood, then rushed home to bake a surprise cake for D.  I'm such a bad lier but I think D was happy with it...especially because I let Dorothy and Francesca actually bake the thing because everything I bake burns! haha we had cake and kimchi.  The next day we had a lovely dinner with all our friends at Ami sushi in Westwood.  Dalynna is so popular we took up the entire outside patio!  Afterwards we hung out at brewco, then went to a pimps n hos party, then met some crazy boys acting like monkeys, then hit the co op party where a bunch of french people were smoking.  it looked cool so I took a pic (but didn't actually smoke it!!!)  Afterwards we walked half naked thru westwood to subway.  We wore sunglasses and trench coats so as not to be recognized.  not conspicuous at all.

hapas like to walk down the street  scantily clad  at 3 in the morning lol

akiko, my japanese sis' bday at the courtyard in west hollywood.  dinner reminded me of how it will be in japan--surrounded by japanese speakers and not understanding anything haha but it was a really fun night and I already miss all my japanese pals!  can't wait to visit them soon.

hapas love to party hardy!  and theres just a funny pic of me teaching dorothy how to plunge a toilet before heading out to the daily bruin A&E party

Spring Sing is one of the greatest traditions at UCLA.  It's a gigantic talent show with celebrity judges like tatiana ali from fresh prince of bel air and lionel richie.  I'm soooo impressed with my fellow bruins, the show blew me away, and I felt proud to be a part of such a great tradition.

afterwards biiig party at the co op as usual haha. french boys took off their shirts and danced for us in their room!
I had to leave the party early because the next morning a bunch of us left for Disneyland for Noahs bday.  I was uber excited cuz I hadn't been since I was 12!!!

Disneyland is still the happiest place on earth for me!!!  After the park we had some wild orgies in the bombass room at the hyatt, then hit california adventures the next day where we sat front row center for Aladdin the musical, which was actually reaaaallly good!  almost as good as the movie!

Hm...I think I'll have to finish the spring recap in another post.  this is already waaayy too long, but spring was so amazing I want to make sure I remember everything!!  gnite for now :-)
