[Background]
Behold his series and all its weirdness and disjointed tales [Personality]
A charming and calm individual, Jing is laid-back and easy going about life and well, nearly everything. Seemingly untroubled by anything that happens he takes it all in stride and jest. Nothing surprises him and he seems to just go with the flow of the situation. He isn’t troubled by time or the idea of rushing things. Have a secret power or are the walking dead? Perhaps you’re a floating fish? Jing has seen it and really, he’s rather unimpressed. He doesn’t talk much and rather not get involved in politics or well, peoples’ problems. Still, he’ll help out when he feels so inclined and always when a child is in danger. The young man can be kind when he wants to be and is fond of just listening to people around him. He’ll always help the elderly when they are in need and is gentle to women, children, and the elderly.
Or so Jing appears on first glance.
Jing is astoundingly astute and intelligent. He will see patterns and make connections that people may never see. He enjoys a mental challenge but is quick to figure out the trick or the lie about the situation. He can plot out long term plans and allow himself to get involved in a multitude of situations knowing the end result will be in his favor such as allowing himself to be arrested so he could be taken to a maximum security prison only to steal and then escape from it. Jing keeps almost all things to himself with a few exceptions. He may not even reveal certain things to those closest to him so he can get those he cares for to react in the way he wants. Although he sounds manipulative (and to some degree he certainly is) Jing usually does this for the other’s benefit. Jing is extremely creative and can come up with the weirdest and most peculiar plans or improvise in a tic. However, very few people can deceive him and fewer still can trick him. Jing is the King of Bandits (don’t say king of thieves because there is a difference and he’ll explain it if he must) and is quite proud of his title. He’s had it since he was ten and perhaps even younger than that. As the king of bandits he is capable of killing, torture, maiming, stealing, and a whole slew of other nasty deeds. He won’t if he doesn’t have to, but he’s not above bringing down an entire government and killing a few gods along the way if the situation calls for it. His thefts and his actions are whimsical and difficult to really follow but he does so with a flare for the fantastic. Jing follows no set pattern and no rules except his own. That isn’t to say that Jing’s laid-back and kind nature is a ruse, just that he is also capable of doing nefarious actions without a second thought.
In fact, Jing can be a bit of an ass when he is pushed to it. Always a witty comeback on his tongue, Jing will insult authority figures with little provocation. One of the things Jing hates most is others trying to intimidate people. He doesn’t go for that and so he deems it his goal to knock those people down a few pegs. It doesn’t matter if they're the king of some country or just an uppity thief, Jing can’t stand overly proud people male or female. He hates when people boast constantly (he does feel boasting on occasion is fine of course). However, Jing is very much a fan of the human condition and all its problems, flaws, and glories. He will always find something admirable in the most loathsome person or creature even if it’s them being an evil bastard. That doesn’t mean he supports it or will allow it to continue, but he does appreciate the darker sides of life. Jing can appreciate nearly anything about someone, it doesn’t stop him from killing them or stealing from them but he does understand that certain things lead up to the choices in life.
Jing always believes there is a choice and that the cards Fate may deal can be changed or better still, made to give a better hand. The bandit king will never just accept something at face value as he himself is so much more than what he first appears to be. When in a tight situation, Jing remains calm, and even quirky. Very little gets him to lose his cool but one of the fastest ways to affect him is to endanger those he loves and cares for (this is not to be confused with insulting his loved ones). If his loved ones are in real danger, Jing will become deadly serious and even enraged. He is quick to respond to the threat with either destroying said threat or fleeing. Jing doesn’t have any issue with running from a bad situation. He isn’t affected when he’s insulted, he does whatever serves his purpose. There is one other way to enrage Jing and that is insulting his mother.
The king of bandits has a major mother complex. Having died when he was young, she showed Jing everything. She left his life very early however, even before he was ten and his time spent with her is unclear but his love and devotion for his mother is very clear. He carries a crystal ornament with a woman’s face engraved on the inside that is Jing’s most prized possession. Everything else he steals falls second to that treasure which sort of begs the question why he steals at all. It isn’t just his mother that Jing cares for of course. His partner in crime, Kir, is also very dear to him and is really the only family he has alive. Any one who is capable of getting past Jing’s defenses and actually make him care for someone remains in his heart for life. Betrayal is something Jing accepts in stride and waits for those he loves to come back some day. However, it takes quite a bit for Jing to ever “love” someone in that way. He has several levels of caring for people but actual “love” is difficult to reach in his heart. But those Jing care for get to see a side of Jing not many will see. He’ll be gentle and caring and even worried about those people, doing everything in his power to help them or keep them safe. He doesn’t lose his jovial nature but his tenderness is more prominent. However, Jing never stops teasing whether he loves you or despises you, but it takes various levels when he actually feels like talking.
For the most part, Jing is a quiet young man. He keeps his thoughts usually to himself and never reveals what he has planned except to his partner in crime, Kir. He doesn’t have interest in normal things and almost seems too laid-back to be the sort to kill or steal. He uses this misconception to his advantage. In fact, Jing is far from the typical bandit. He hates the taste of alcohol and spending time with loose women. He doesn’t boast about any of his treasures or conquests and he finds great pleasure in nature and the human condition. Jing is a heretic and extremely non-religious, he doesn’t believe in any sort of god or “higher power,” only the truth of a situation is his religion. If Jing met a true god he might feel so inclined to believe him but all he has seen is mockeries. If a god and religion are so corrupt, he will even go so far as to destroy a god and completely dismantle the religion. He has done this on two occasions. Jing derives no pleasure from taking religion or comfort from people, but ironically, the bandit king cannot stand corrupt governments.
Jing believes in the strength of people (people here is broadly used in the sense of it including all sorts of mythical creatures and odd species) and often enjoys just people watching. However, his greatest love is freedom. Jing doesn’t do well with being caged or trapped in one place too long. He always has to wander, always has to travel to some place new and see what is out there. Those he loves he revisits but the only person to ever travel with him is his partner in crime. Jing rarely if ever offers for someone to come with him on his journey, but he will always keep his promises. Jing is a man of his word, it’s just nearly impossible for him to actually give his word. He can twists words and use word play to dodge any sort of question or situation as he pleases, and if he can’t than he will make sure his word is kept. Jing will never tell a lie, but he may not always tell the full truth or he’ll merely let people come to their own conclusions.
The best way to describe Jing, is a dynamic young man who is in control of himself and doesn’t bother with the illusion of control of the world around him. He knows the universe is chaotic and goes with the flow of that chaos, sometimes even offering a hand and partaking in it. But just as much as he understands chaos is needed, Jing knows order is needed just as much. He’s a very calm and balanced individual who quite literally has control over his own desires. Sometimes he can be a gigantic ass but he’s polite to people in general in the sense that he doesn’t really bother with them. He’s sometimes best described as an anti-hero. He in fact hates the title of “hero” or “good guy” and would just rather be passed by for any good deed he may do. When it pleases him he may help police capture someone or help that criminal escape. This behavior makes Jing enigmatic and unpredictable, and that's the way he likes it.
