Constantinople
Okay, I am going to do it... I am leaving on Friday for Istanbul, so y'all better make your plans to visit while you have the chance! I will be at Bilgi University in Istanbul as an academic skills instructor. I will have a very small, as in studio, apartment though, so I am not sure until I see it if I will be able to put you up at my place... I will try to post at least once a week so you can be amused by my adventures...
What the hell am I thinking moving to a country where I don't know ANY of the language!!! My guess is that it will be fairly amusing as I fumble along...
Y'all will need to look after my boyfriend every once and a while - like call him if you are going to a movie and drag him along. Especially since Nick is moving out, I don't want him to be too lonely.
It's funny, I was a lot more concerned about going there until my friend, Nesrin, told me she would take me to IKEA to shop for stuff for my flat. If there is an IKEA, I will be fine.
So part of the plan is that I am going to buy a laptop to take with me. I am also getting a magic jack for it which will allow me to have a US phone number. I will just plug the jack into the computer, and the phone into the jack so I can make and receive phone calls. (The trick here being the seven hour time difference from Michigan - ten hours from Arizona!) So it should be pretty much free to talk on the phone. Then I will get a cell phone to use for local calling in Turkey. I will post those numbers as soon as I have them.
The other bit of housekeeping will be my e-mail... not sure how long my UMF address will be accessible, so you can use my comcast one for sure, and when I get my Bilgi U one I will try to let you know.
I have about a bajillion things to take care of before I go... and I am really going to miss everyone... I hope I get to see you before Friday...
