For the past 15 months I've had to eat a much larger diet due to being pregnant & breastfeeding. This is the third week since I stopped nursing. I knew I had to drop the quantity of food I eat way down. Last week I guess I dropped it down too much. I was at work when my blood sugar dropped too low. I told my co-worker I needed to run to the vending ( Read more... )

Yup. I don't know why they don't ever tell you this in all the parenting "lessons" and "advice" you get while you're pregnant, but I learned it the hard way too: The single hardest thing about raising a baby isn't taking care of *them* -- it's remembering to take care of *you*!! I had to get really messed up, too, before I finally realized that if *I* wasn't in good health--emphatically including mentally!--then I couldn't do right by Marien. It's really hard at first, because the babies take so much attention, you feel like you're neglecting them if you take any time for yourself. I ended up having to keep a notepad, and write down one thing I would do every day *just for me* -- be it taking a walk, eating a nice meal, getting a bath or a nap in -- something. Good luck to you--trust me, once you get a little more used to them, it's not so hard to juggle everything.

That said, when you stop breastfeeding you only need about 500 calories less a day, silly. That's like, one less meal, or one less can-of-pop-and-candy-bar, not no food!! (And just so you don't take my lecturing too seriously, back in January I lost 30 pounds in a *month* being stupid about food and neglecting myself, almost got really really sick, and I'm only just starting to get back to normal. And talk about someone who should know better; I'm an herbalist!)

Best of luck n stuff! -K*
