Has it become "cool" to spoil your child? I have a friend in real life that I was Christmas shopping with over the weekend. Well she had her 2 kids Christmas list to Santa. They are ages 9 and almost 11. She said she needed to get everything on the list. OK so EVERYTHING?? Mind you there were at least 30 things on the list. And some of them were not small wants (the 9 yr old was asking for his own laptop). Her husband doesn't make any more than mine does. Now granted we have 4 kids and she has 2. But still... since when does a kid get everything on their Christmas list????
I try to get my kids their #1 thing (barring the request for a new puppy or a pony). Then if I feel like anything else on their list is something they should get, I get it. We set a spending limit and stick to it.
Anyway, I don't get buying and buying for children at Christmas time. I wonder what happens when her 11 yr old starts asking for diamonds and new cars? Honestly I am NOT jealous of her. I just don't get how it will help a child in life to get everything they ask for??
OK stepping off my soapbox now.....
