I just purchased our read alouds for the next six months or so. I've been finding it hard to find stuff to read around here. We have SO MANY books, yet the ones I find myself wanting to read, that I think my girls would like or need to hear, are not here. I'm hoping all my girls will start reading more on their own eventually. I don't like libraries, so I just buy books. Most of these are specially chosen with 10 year old Maria in mind. Some are exposure to ideas, language, culture and history that I think is important.

This is what I bought:
Homecoming and Dicey's Song by Cynthia Voigt
Island of the Blue Dolphins by Scott O'Dell
Jacob Have I Loved by Katherine Paterson
Julie of the Wolves by Jean Craighead George
The Bronze Bow by Elizabeth George Speare
Secret of the Andes by Ann Nolan Clark
The Corn Grows Ripe by Dorothy Rhoads
The Fledgling by Jane Langton

$24 (including shipping) from Abe Books. Not bad.

We already own A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle and The Courage of Sarah Noble by Alice Nolan Clark which are also on the agenda.

I love books.
