Cord Blood

Apr 17, 2005 09:39

If you know anyone who is pregnant tell them about this.

The National Cord Blood Registry is in need of cord blood. (From the umbilical cords) You can keep it for your own family and have it stored somewhere for a hefty storage fee a year. Or you can donate it (free) to the National Registry and anyone who needs it can use it. Most often the cord blood is used to do stem cell transplants on young children, most of whom have leukemia. Vincie was going to have a cord blood, stem cell transplant but we couldn't get him back in remission in order to go.

Please tell anyone you know and they can help save a life. (Refer them to the article in the link below)

Most states in the US do have at least one of their own Cord Blood Banks. Sometimes it will be located in the state capital. (i.e. Ohio's is in Columbus)
