We had an unexpected little snowpocalypse of our own this morning - about 2" of snow in my yard. It began this morning around 8:30 while I was sitting down reading - I heard it but thought it was rain (had my glasses off to read). When I finally arose, it was snowy outside!
Then we had a cardinal explosion at the birdfeeder. I have never seen so many cardinals at one time and place like that. There must have been seven or eight males and about that many females. There was some sort of pecking order - only one male at a time would get on the feeder - but the females didn't seem to care as much. I watched them approach the feeder one at a time, while the others sat on nearby tree branches or hopped around on the snowy rocks under the feeder and waited their turns.
It was really magical. There were also about six or seven other species - redheaded woodpeckers, thrushes, house wrens, doves, bluejays, chickdees, and tufted titmice - flying in and out around the flock of cardinals. All in all a really intense bird morning.
Nothing yet happening much on the job front. I've had a couple of interviews and one job offer, which I turned down because the pay was way too low. We'd have gone into a slow slide to bankruptcy. David tells me to have faith that the right job will come along, so I'm trying to do just that as well as try to not be afraid.
