Be Careful, Safe Driving Might Get You a Ticket

Ok, I've really been wanting to post an update that was about what I've been up to lately or about family or something. As it happens I got on line to write about happy things but ended up reading a stupid article as I usually do and felt I instead needed to rant ( Read more... )

...thanks, Val, I've gotten sucked into the comments. Actually, most of the comments are correct, he should have gotten a ticket, even if they've got their reasons wrong. It's not that he was just driving too slow, but apparently he was driving at 58 in the #1 (Left) lane, which is illegal. I think everyone who does that ought to get ticketed, because it is dangerous to drive too slow in the passing lane; it's meant for passing and passing only.

Unfortuneatly, mosty of the commentators are idiots saying things like "doesn't he know driving the limit will save him gas?" which is stupid, as the most economically sound speed to drive at is between 45 and 55 mph (depending on make, model, and year of the car); once you pass that wind resistance is killer; yo can save about 25% of fuel by slowing from 70 to 65, for instance.

the general rule here is that people are stupid, and want to find whatever they can to prove themselves right. this is why, speed limits be damned, I find it safest to simp[ly drive at the speed of traffic. the real key is to keep your car a safe distance from the car ahead of you...

Hey, I'm glad I'm not the only one that the internet wastes time on (or that wastes time on the internet). ^_^

I did not see it anywhere saying he was in the left lane and even if he was you can't get a ticket for that, even if you are driving below the speed limit unless you are doing less than 40. They can ticket you for driving too slow if you are doing less than 40.

Yes, the left lane is for passing but what if a car he was passing happened to only be doing 50? Then you are saying he was breaking the law even though he was using the passing lane correctly. The max speed is 65, there for anyone in the passing lane can still only go 65 and 58 is only 7 miles under that.... there are many factors that can cause you to slow down even when in the "fast lane".

This still goes down in my book as one f-ed up traffic stop.
