I agree with you about the inbreeding of a specific gene pool in animals. Every attempt should be made to further the the breed for the betterment of the breed rather than for greed, profit or fighting. I'm sure in the past the pit-bull breed served its purpose and was probably used in the role of hunter, protector or for animal fighting but since we don't live in the dark ages the breed needs to be adapted to our current society. Breed banning is not the answer. Early socialization rather than isolation training along with training will serve society better. It could be too late to fix certain dogs even at adoption if they have not been socialized or introduced to a family situation at a very early age. Identifying and correcting aggressive behavior when the dog is young will also prevent problems. Regulation and tougher laws regarding breeding could also serve better than just banning the animal.
I'm sorry you had a nasty run in with two Pitts. those two sound like not very nice animals. Did the next door owners leave them outside all the time? where they intended to be guard dogs?

breed banning does not solve anything. If you eliminate the most aggressive breed, you will still have a breed who will take on the role of most aggressive breed. The ban will not stop attacks but could shift the natural equilibrium and could cause unexpected changes in the animal population. Change the role of the breed don't get rid of them.

Breed banning is not the answer. breed mixing alone is a better solution than the elimination of the breed all together.
