Adding domestic policies would be too broad, I think. I tend to go very broad and then I want to die. XD

Wait, how long is the paper supposed to be?

3 sounds epic, mostly because I always wonder where is the left in Japan. WHERE.

Yeaah. I was thinking that.

8000 words, although we can go 10% either way, so a max of about 8800.

I KNOW, RIGHT. I wonder that too.

Well, their pop culture seems so... devoid in politics. I mean, mocking peronism is a national sport here. XD

I KNOW. Political satire shows are really popular over here, and some of our best comedians deal in political jokes and satire, and they don't really seem to have that, so it's like '......what' to someone who's used to that kind of thing.

2 and 4 appeal to me. 2 does have the value of being a chicken vs. egg situation, but it does give you lots of ground for exploring how much the two are related and if the links between the two.

4, I'd compare it to Japan, and show how the two countries have managed to develop in very different ways culturally? Though, it does bear similarities too with the imperialistic surges both countries went through. IDK, just throwing ideas out there.

4. -> Yeah, although I don't know how much ground I'd have for exploring Japan compared to the UK since I'm doing an East Asian degree, but it's something to discuss once I have my meeting. Because there are a few similarities there with, as you've said, the imperialism and I've read a couple of anthropological ...things that hit upon a few similarities between the Japanese people and the British people, so I think it could be quite interesting if I'm able to go down that route.

1 seems easy. if you add politics there you would need more space - i chose an ambitious and broad topic and had to really restrict myself, and then after all the cuts cuts cuts and more cuts it was 70 pages instead of 30 for my bachleors. but my supervisor okayed this cause of the topic. still it was hell, i could just write a masters ( ... )
