Patriotic and slightly neurotic life in a small town.

I hope everyone had a happy July 4th! I didn't do much- Dutchboy had to work. My brother and I grilled hamburgers and went to see the fireworks. Dutch joined us for that. It wasn't too hot for once. Our town can do some of the oddest things to celebrate a holiday...or maybe they just seem odd to me?? The last few years, the town has had a fire truck/emergency vehicle parade through downtown prior to the fireworks. This year they included tow trucks. WTF? And several regular pickup trucks from an automotive repair company. I think I could probably have been included by riding a tricycle with a horn on it. Anyway, it always leaves me wondering with all the emergency vehicles and firetrucks in the parade, what happens when a fire breaks out? When someone is pinned in during an accident on their way to see the parade? Add to that, they pile the tops of these vehicles with grinning and laughing children, teens and adults who are waving like crazy. Doesn't really seem safe to me! Very ironic when the local paper printed an article about local law enforcement was emphasizing "Safety on the Fourth" and cracking down on illegal fireworks in an effort to make the holiday safer. How about getting young Billy Bob and little Mary Sue off the top of that big ol' truck that roared down Main Street? And while you're at it, how about putting some earplugs in those little ears so they don't go deaf from all that wailing and honking?? But hey, what do I know????
Whatever! As far as I know there were no disasters to speak of and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. We took lots of pictures, so I'm posting a few of my favorites. But you can see the whole set on Flickr by clicking here.

This is my favorite!

Looking out over a parking deck of people watching Armageddon. Yeah, yeah, I know…how melodramatic can ya be????

Awwwwwwww…it's a heart!! Dutch and I had to kiss on that one. While my brother made gagging sounds. LoL.

Sunday evening we experienced natural fireworks! A thunderstorm that definitely had hellfire and brimstone raining from the heavens. It ended near sunset and the woods behind our filled with mist that diffused the setting sunlight beautifully.
