TV meme: Day five
I will be a good little meme participant from now on, I promise.
Day 05 - A show you hate
When I first heard the rumors that a new Stargate show was in the works, I was excited and impatient. After all, SG1 was an amazing show, and with the exception of the last half of the last season, so was SGA. So I was definitely looking to SGU.
(BTW, this show first started airing this season. However, being the only new show I am was watching, doesn't give it the automatic distinction of being my favorite.)
Instead of the action-driven and adventurous story lines I've come to expect from the Stargate universe, Stargate Universe is like a standing pool of water. It doesn't go anywhere, doesn't do anything, isn't interesting in the least. It's a sci-fi soap opera in space, only I've watched actual soap operas that are better.
The characters leave me emotionless and uncaring (minus one, whose name escapes me right now), there have been un-ignorable (for me anyway) plot holes, decisions that make no sense whatsoever, and unrealistic scenarios that I'm sorry but I can't believe the US government would allow to happen ('body swapping' with someone on Earth and then using their body to get drunk or have sex without their explicit permission to do these things).
I was planning on giving the show until the end of this season to improve, but it's just so yawn-ably boring that I dread even the thought of watching anymore. So after the success of SG1 and SGA, the Syfy channel totally struck out on this one. My only hope is that they don't prolong the suffering any longer than necessary and Stargate Universe will not be back next season.
