That giant sucking sound you hear?

Yes, that's my Kentucky Wildcats. They've been making this sound for much of the season, and they've only gotten louder in recent weeks. I have no illusions of them making the NCAA Tournament, not since they lost their last four games going into the SEC Tournament. Pretty much the most interesting thing left will be seeing whether or not they ( Read more... )

First off, Happy Early Birthday! (I Also just realized what today was and now get why that sports dude was all "there's no need to beware the Ides of March" on some show yesterday.")
I just got in from work and caught the start of ESPN's Bracketology special. They started with listing the number ones, and then went into teams with the longest NCAA streaks. I saw Kentucky at the bottom of the screen and was like, "WHAT!?!? KENTUCKY!" then noticed the tiny yellow arrow denoting "streak broken this year". And then I felt better. I know someone always gets in (or gets ranked) based on their name and reputation, but I was like "Were they even .500 this year? I'm sure they sucked. They sucked, right?" I didn't want you guys to be that team two years in a row. You did get an NIT invite though, so maybe you can do the whole big-fish-in-a-small-pond thing. (Wait. It turns out that no official announcements have been made yet, yet KU has the NIT listed on the schedule of upcoming games. I guess they already know, but still, it would be quite embarrassing if an invite did not come your way. Also, the NIT is so second-class, the Selection Show is coming on ESPNU, not regular ESPN, not "the deuce", but U. Ouch.)
Did you know that if you google "la biftek avec pomme frites" to find out what it is this very entry is the third result? Now you do. (I thought "pomme frites" was fries, but was confused, as I thought "pomme" was apple. Great story.) And now, bracket time!

You know, I read this last night, but in my drunken stupor did not take note of the icon. Fail! But I deserve it, because the team really was pretty bad this year. But you cannot average 20.something turnovers per game and expect to go anywhere. I had hopes after the regular season LSU game, where we lost with something like nine seconds left. But then we lost the next three games, too. Including one to freaking Georgia, the Really Terrible team in the conference, this year. That's when I knew things were over.

So I was unphased by the Selection Show yesterday, and we didn't deserve it anyway. I mean, I have some objections to the selections (mainly Arizona, Michigan, and Maryland), but I don't think we should be there, instead. It should probably be people like San Diego State, St. Mary's, and Davidson and/or Tulsa. Worse, now these teams are in the NIT, too!!!! And these are Actual Good teams! I don't want Actual Good teams in my Tournament of Bad! How are we going to beat teams that are actually good??? I mean, I think we could beat Michigan, Arizona, and Maryland. But the rest of them? No. No, I don't think so. Oh well, I give Coach Turnovers (IDK if this name will stick, but I like it for now) one more year to try to work some of his Famous Recruiting Mojo™, but after that, if this miserableness persists, he's gone.

Oh, also, I think I'll be going with UConn as National Champs. I haven't really had time to go over the brackets, yet, but I'll probably make another post once I do. Still, from what I remember from the selection show, I like UConn.

ETA: One of the reasons that "la biftek avec pommes frites" doesn't yield many hits is that I got the article wrong. See, it should be "le biftek avec pommes frites." I'd change it, but your comment has outed my failure at recollecting thirteen year-old stores of French masculine/feminine distinctions. LOL, Linda Linden of Lory Lane (my high school French teacher's actual name and street residence) would be quite disappointed in me.

ETA2: Oh, also, "pomme" is apple, but "pomme de terre" (or, "earth apple") is potato. So "pomme frites" are fries. I think it's just assumed that no one wants apple fries, so they forgo the "de terre" part.

That is my brand-new-made-just-for-this-post-end-of-season "Sports!" icon. I wanted to make one featuring the brand new "2009 ACC Champions" t-shirts (as a subtle way of saying "Hey, we did not suck this year! Maybe you did, but we... did not. Good for us!"), but the pictures were not out yet. Maybe later.
but I don't think we should be there, instead. It should probably be people like San Diego State, St. Mary's, and Davidson and/or Tulsa.
I like how there are people who keep up with which teams suck and which don't. I don't think I watched more than three games that could not be described as "a game in which Duke played". I checked in on State/Carolina, but State has 13 points at the half, at which point I was so disgusted I turned it off. Oh, and I watched some Kentucky game earlier this year, but you guys failed too. Every year I say I am gonna broaden my horizons and watch other folks play, but I just can't get into a game if I really have nothing invested in it.

LOL! Every year you mention his "recruiting" prowess, and every year it fails to materialize anything except an Embarrassing Amount of Losses. Perhaps it's time to give him the old heave-ho? I am sure Larry Brown will be looking for a new job any day now. Maybe you can snatch him up?

I think it's just assumed that no one wants apple fries
I am sure this is true everywhere.
