I have learned from having a teen aged grand daughter around to really appreciate rap. Although the words are usually important and often give you insight into a "growing up" background we could never expect to understand without living it, the real beauty (yes, I said beauty, me, the classical organist said beauty) is in the rhythm and the sound. The trouble we traditionalists have with it is that we keep searching for something familiar to grab onto, like melody. These kids really aren't into melody at all.

If you stop trying to focus and just open your whole soul to the aggregate sound, the totality of the phenomenon, it'll get under your skin and soon you'll find yourself bouncing... or at least tapping your foot. It's about the chaos within. You don't understand this music, you just FEEL it!

BTW, haven't heard so much from you lately... everything OK?

Meanwhile I thought I'd share these wise words I got from a "friend":
Writing to Save the Day

Writing can be a true spiritual discipline. Writing can help us to concentrate, to get in touch with the deeper stirrings of our hearts, to clarify our minds, to process confusing emotions, to reflect on our experiences, to give artistic expression to what we are living, and to store significant events in our memories. Writing can also be good for others who might read what we write.

Quite often a difficult, painful, or frustrating day can be "redeemed" by writing about it. By writing we can claim what we have lived and thus integrate it more fully into our journeys. Then writing can become lifesaving for us and sometimes for others too.

Henri Nouwen

*wink* We need you too you know?
