I haven't spoken of politics much recently. It's not that there's not much to speak of, it's just that I haven't wanted to enter the fray until the presidential race has sorted itself out a little more and gotten rid of all the riff-raff. But I must speak of this: the Potomac Primary. You see, friends, I live in a purple state. I have never lived in a purple state during an election year before, and let me tell you, it is TEH kewl. In Massachusetts, it was always assumed I was a bleeding-heart liberal Democrat just like everyone else in the state, only stopping by my polling place to vote for whichever Kennedy was on the ballot that year. The votes of Bostonians are not generally courted, and their opinions are rarely asked (perhaps because we are generous enough to so freely volunteer them). But here! Here I am courted. I am wooed. Republicans, Democrats, and all the other whack-job parties - they all want me. Two or three different pollsters a day have been calling my house for the past few weeks. There is a soft money ad on my answering machine. I am being courted! I am sexy. I am important. I am a Battleground Voter. This is so cool.
And yes, I voted today.
