So the Debbie Bliss Rialto knits like a dream. Soft, springy, beautiful, and most importantly, non-itchy. I love it.
And my gauge is off.
Frick.
It's only off by 1 stitch (I'm getting 22sts/4" as opposed to 21sts/4"), but because I'd planned to knit the size that's eeeeeeergh juuuuuust a leetle smaller than my actual bust measurement (by 1/4"), it matters, because with the current gauge I'm getting, it's going to come out about 1.5" too small. It's okay - I did a bunch of Knitting Maths last night to compensate for the gauge difference, so I think all will be well. I'm going to cast on tonight, anyway, so all *better* be well.
I didn't get into knitting for the math. Actually, I got into knitting because it seemed to be about as far away from math as one could get. I laugh now at my naiveté, of course, but back when I first cracked open "Knitting For Dummies" and resolutely cast on for that first Red Heart garter stitch scarf, it all seemed so ... mathless. And by the time I realized how very. much. math. was actually involved in this little hobby, I was already hooked. I'd drunk the Kool-Aid. I'd fondled the cashmere. There was no turning back. And now there is math. Lots and lots of math.
Math will not break me. I will beat math.
