What is new in the life of Nicole? Not very much by normal standards. "Then why write?" you may ask. I don't have a good answer to that. It may be related to the question of why people maintain political blogs. There is no good answer, it is simply the human need to perpetuate the lie that man's mundane ideas are terribly important. When they are not. But nonetheless, I write.
Ann's youngest sister just got engaged; she called to tell me yesterday. She is nearly a year younger than I, and she has been involved with her husband-to-be for several years. He is a nice fellow and will treat her well. I am quite happy for them (so is Ann apparently--I guess she completely flipped out in the grocery store upon hearing the news), but I know that her other siblings (Julie is one of eight) are rolling their eyes. They don't understand Julie's obsession with the Protestant faith (they are Catholics) or her obsession with faith in general (they are not very good Catholics). Kyle, the new future-in-law, is just as devoted to Christ as she, and thus her family rolls its eyes. That, and Julie is very much into the having of the babies. Which widens the gap between her and siblings further--for aside from Ann and Kate (#4), they all have this notion that children are an abominable burden. I don't worry about the Christ thing too much--she's not a hater or pushy about it--and children are cool, though I don't understand the big rush. Her uterus isn't going anywhere. But this should be interesting anyway. The only downside--her reception will probably be dry. (I never realized about many parentheticals it takes to tell a story from Ann's side. Damn.)
I continue to experiment and learn in my kitchen. I made a bitchin' meatloaf the other day. And I found a store with some delicious fresh tomatoes that actually were decently priced. So we made BLT's. Nothing tastes better in the summer than a BLT.
No job, though I am finding more openings. That is an improvement.
We're going to see Stepbrothers tonight...I don't have high hopes, but it's free popcorn night at the theatre. So it's cool.
I'm going to piggyback with Cody next week while he goes down to southern Illinois for work. He is working at Gateway mine, which is where he interned for the past two summers. He loves the people and the atmosphere there, and while Sparta is a very small town, the area holds many memories for both of us. Thus, I believe it will be fun. And the hotel will have Internet, so I won't go nuts.
Strangely, I think that wine may be a luxury I can no longer enjoy. It has begun giving me unbearable headaches mere hours after it has been consumed...and these headaches are hard to shake; no amount of hydration seems to help. I am not sure what it is. I thought it was this particular wine we were buying, but we tried something new and the same thing happened. Maybe this is my punishment for cheating on Oliver.
Old Chicago is my new favorite hangout. Expensive, but delicious. MMMMMMM! Beer beer beer beer beer beer beer beer beer beer beer.
My mother is coming to visit on the weekend of the 8th. I am excited to show her my house, and I miss David and Madison, but I am still tres stressed about the whole ordeal. My mother does that to people.
There is a rose on my kitchen table. It makes me smile.
