IMPOSSIBLE IS NOTHING I have to say I am so exceedingly proud of my girl Isa Cruz for having finished the 42-kilometer full marathon last Sunday, August 3rd 2008. I do not know where to begin, I don’t even know how to write this entry for too many thoughts pour into my head, the right words cannot even begin to suffice the magnitude of this, nothing short of inspirational, run.
What do I start with? The delicious pasta Isa made for us, with special thoughts on me since I am a vegetarian. Or how about the strong rain that befell us and maybe one cannot understand the complication of a run when it rains, it may be better since heat won’t be adding to depleting energy but the water adds weight to clothes and especially the shoes and when weight is added, the harder the run. I need to mention that it wasn’t just the usual rain I have already ran under, this was strong winds, hard and heavy rain. One would have to push oneself against the wind that was moving against us and not with us. The icky, bacteria-filled puddles one cannot help but tread on no matter how much one can avoid them. The run was held on Roxas Boulevard (my favorite part of Manila), starting line was beside the Rizal monument and the finish line was separated by a kilometer ending in front of the Quirino grand stand. I but ran 5 kilometers because I am trying to beat my time, the faster I get, the longer my endurance, the better I will be for the 10ks, 16ks and so on. It was my 5th race this year. Of course that is nothing compared to running from the Rizal monument on the whole stretch of road of Roxas Blvd passing Buendia, onto the Fort (Heritage area, the most difficult part I hear, due to the rolling terrain), Mc Kinley and back on Roxas to end up before the Quirino grandstand. If you think how expensive gas is nowadays, imagine the human fuel needed to run that whole 42 kilometers, (now that’s expensive human energy right durr!) it all seems exaggeratingly ridiculous but Cruz has showed the will and determination NOT ONLY to finish it under 5 hours (which is the cut-off time for the runners, after that you’re counted merely for finishing it), but also that this is her FIRST full marathon and she was the 10th girl to finish, received a medal and cash for something she never did for money but for pure passion. She did say that if she even wins a place with cash involved, it’s a career! :-p She finished in 4 hours, 43 minutes, WOH ! What was it again ADIDAS? Impossible is NOTHING.
Staring at the blank page before you. Open up the dirty window. Let the sun illuminate the words that you cannot find. Reaching for something in the distance. So close you can almost taste it. Release your inhibitions. Feel the rain on your skin. No one else can feel it for you. Only you can let it in. No one else, no one else can speak the words on your lips. Drench yourself in words unspoken. Live your life with arms wide open. Today is where your book begins. The rest is still unwritten. I break tradition, sometimes my tries, are outside the lines. We've been conditioned to not make mistakes, but I can't live that way
