I'm "That Guy," but is it really that bad?

Yes, I'll admit it. I am "That" Guy. I do not think babies are cute. I will declare here and now, "babies are NOT cute." Now, before you get angry and form a mob to hunt me down with pitchforks and torches, let me explain my point of view.

When I refer to babies not being cute, I am referring to newborn infants. I have a difficult time mustering up the ability to rejoices over this slimy, gross, misshapen creature. Even after they have been weighed, bathed and swaddled, they still look like some mini-extra from Coneheads. And don't get me starts on those diapers brimming with unnaturally colored shi...stuff.

Don't get me wrong. Just because I claim that babies are not cute in no way means that I do not like kids. On the contrary, I like kids (most of the time - but that is a discussion for a later date). Several of my friends and both of my sisters have kids that I am enamored over. My nephews and my niece are the light of my life and I enjoy spending my time with them when I am able to. I can also rejoice in the announcements that friends, family or coworkers are expecting a child or have had a child. I just don't want to see the post-travel pictures.

I am much more the kind of person that enjoys the developmental stages and progress of children. I love the first smile, the realization that there is someone connected to the voice, finger, body, breast that they have been comforted by for so long. I love the experience of the babies personality starting to develop and create this miniature human being that finds joy and excitement in the most simple things. I even love the experiences I have had of having this fragile little being fall asleep on my shoulder without a care in the world because they feel safe and secure, making me feel safe and secure.

Now, does not liking a baby fresh from the station really make me that bad of a person?
