Happy Australia Day!
As always (well usually), I spent most of the day listening to
Triple J's Hottest 100 Countdown and enjoying myself with some friends around a barbecue with a drink or five. Interesting rundown in the top five this year, none of us really picked the top two being anywhere where they were...
As for what I voted for, here's where they came:
Young And Restless - Satan No listing
Robyn - Konichiwa BitchesNo listing
Lily Allen - Alfie92
Sarah Blasko - Explain79
Grates - Lies Are Much More Fun71
Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Phenomena66
Pony Up! - The Truth About Cats & Dogs (Is That They Die)47
Lily Allen - LDN35
Camille - Ta Douleur26
Regina Spektor - Fidelity20
Hmm... pretty shoddy record. Just goes to prove the music I really like isn't the most popular, even amongst the JJJ audience. A lot of other artists I would have voted for did get songs in, and even some of the artists I did vote for had higher positions with different songs, but I picked some standout tracks from last year that I really thought needed the vote :)
Here's the full list, if you're interested. And if you don't listen to JJJ, or to the radio at all, then it's likely you've not heard of a lot of these songs. But these are the ones that people around Australia have voted for, and so they'll stand for 2006's record.
I guess now we wait to see which tracks are included on the Hottest 100 CDs this year, and only when I know what's on it will I make the decision about whether to buy it or not :)
