On the left is a very small photo of Jake, our fuzzy friend, from the point of view of someone he's trying to wake up.
We started school yesterday, and I came to the realization for the umpteenth time that I have not done any research since John and I got engaged just over a month ago. I guess my only excuse is that I needed a week to make phone calls and you know, stop smiling (one will not smile when one does math), and then it was break, and we made gifts and cookies, then went to Belmont for a week, then San Diego, and then it was now. What's a girl to do? (Not math, apparently.)
John is a TA for a PIC class (that's Program in Computing, and he's probably doing C++) and I've got 2 sections of the third quarter of Calculus for Biology and Medicine. What this means is that he's going to have students emailing him huge code to look through with the message "This won't run. Find my missing semicolon." and I'm going to have 70 pre-meds all trying for an A who will (I'm sure) repeatedly amaze me with their lack of problem-solving skills. I mean, when I think that my doctor was once a pre-med student, I know why I'm so reticent to go. Still, we're thankful for the money, thankful that our fees are paid for now, and speaking of fees, are not sure what's going to happen to us next year, what with the Gubernator's proposed 44% fee hike for graduate students at UCs.
In any case, it's back to work for both of us, me on my dissertation, and John on his reading courses, and when you pair that with teaching, and add in some nice bike rides, some tutoring, and The West Wing, we're busy.
