Hot!

It is REALLY hot in Minnesota this weekend! As of right now, my bedroom is somewhere around 90 degrees, and the hallway outside is about 85 degrees, or so. Luckily for mom, the dogs, and me, we decided to spend about an hour or two today putting in the two window air conditioners that we own downstairs, making it possible to live, breathe and sleep on at least one floor of our house. It's somewhere around 80 degrees down there, even with the cool air coming from the air conditioners. To those who have central air conditioning tonight, you're very lucky.

Catherine is one of those people, because she's staying at the hotel across the highway from our house. She's basically slept about three hours or so each night for the past two weeks because she was taking care of her mom 'round-the-clock for that time. Catherine has a really hard time dealing with the heat, so, to allow herself to sleep, she's staying at a hotel for the night because the hotel has air conditioning.

To battle the heat at home where there's no central air conditioning, mom and me took the dogs to the dog beach. We swam for about 45 minutes or so; just long enough to cool off in the water and enjoy ourselves a little, but not long enough for me to get any exercise (especially since I had Scout, who won't go in the water deeper than at the level of his armpits). So, to continue my summer weight-loss jaunt (when I actually have time to get some exercise, rather than during the academic year when I have much less flexibility), I took Scout for a 45-minute long speedwalk by the lake.

In other news, I've finally finished the paperback book Sixteen, a book of short stories edited by Megan McCafferty. This probably isn't a big feat for most people, especially people who are at a college reading level, but it was for me. It's pretty difficult for me to find a book that holds my attention long enough to finish it. I'd been reading the book since the day after finals ended, sometime at the end of May. I never pushed myself to read more quickly than I was comfortable; I just read the stories to enjoy them. I would recommend the book to anyone; there is a story in it that would pique the interest of nearly every young adult.

Mmmm.....and now.....I get to start reading the fourth book in the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants series; Forever in Blue: The Fourth Summer of the Sisterhood. I bought the book last weekend because I finally had enough disposable income to buy the hardcover version (it's not out in paperback yet, and I wanted to complete my hardcover set because I have the first three in hardcover as well). THE SISTERHOOD OF THE TRAVELING PANTS! THE SISTERHOOD OF THE TRAVELING PANTS! THE SISTERHOOD OF THE TRAVELING PANTS!
